Central Missouri Research, Extension, & Education Center – Horticulture & Agroforestry Research Farm
Job Description
The University of Missouri’s Central Missouri, Research, Extension & Education Center (CM-REEC) is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Farm Manager with the ability to manage the operational, maintenance and personnel activities of University of Missouri’s Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Farm (HARF) near New Franklin, Missouri. HARF serves as a real-world laboratory that allows the University to develop practical solutions to a variety of agroforestry, horticulture, viticulture and forage issues through cutting-edge research. These activities provide student learning opportunities related to all farm activities.
Key Responsibilities include:
- 45% Care and management of facilities working closely with faculty, and management of farm crew, along with graduate and undergraduate students
- Oversee day-to-day operations of HARF including supervising HARF staff.
- Assisting PI’s in establishing new research plots and removing old plots including site preparation.
- Assisting in harvesting, spraying and marketing of crops.
- Oversee livestock operation and herd health.
- Develop and lead necessary safety procedure training on equipment.
- Develop working relationships with various internal and external parties as needed (e.g., during educational programs and field days).
- Make recommendations for improvement/efficiency as necessary.
- 30% Maintenance, repair and oversight of facility and equipment used at the research center
- Responsible for operation of equipment needed for research as well as routine maintenance and repair of equipment and facilities at HARF.
- Maintaining facilities including irrigation and fencing.
- Maintain the Hickman House.
- 15% Coordinate with Faculty and Staff at the Land of the Osage Research Farm (LORF)
- Initiating research projects-including Agroforestry, Natural Resources and Livestock.
- Assisting with Outreach events.
- Overseeing basic maintenance of facilities including mowing, fencing and repair.
- 5% Maintenance of records
- Keep accurate and complete records and work with CM REEC Business Support staff.
- 5% Other duties as assigned
Shift
7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, some evenings and weekends as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
Public Pesticide License
CDL
Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $55,000 – $65,000 annually.
Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
