Network Engineer – Data Center Networks

Responsibilities

• Actively monitor and react to real-time network conditions and make recommendations on improving monitoring

and reporting

• Determine operational weaknesses within the existing network infrastructure, and present execution plans to

overcome those concerns in a timely fashion while still making the most cost-efficient use of resources

• Interact with other teams to provide escalation support during outages and customer issues, even if the problem

might not be directly related to the network infrastructure

• Work to complete all projects assigned to the engineer and exhaust all possible resources to provide results on

time, within specifications, and on budget

• Document activities such as MOPs / SOPs, RCAs, problem reports, and system configurations
• Ensure the monitoring and management of firewall and security functions. Implementation and enforcement of

existing and self-designed security measures and policies to protect the network from both external and internal

attacks and/or abuses

• Provide oversight and training for Network & Security resources in 24x7x365 Cloud Network Operations Center
• Must have a positive attitude while participating in after-hour and weekend network maintenance and on-call

situations

• Take ownership of all other duties as assigned
• Participate in the team on-call rotation

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Network Engineering and Operations
• 5+ years of implementation and support of WAN services and large-scale data center networks
• Knowledge of industry trends and impacts on network design, architecture, planning and implementation
• Hands-on experience with network devices from Arista, Juniper MX and SRX platforms, SECUI, and Cisco
• Familiarity with configuration and troubleshooting of F5 and Citrix VPN appliances and load-balancer applications

Skills & Experience

• Service provider and/or cloud provider experience preferred
• Knowledge with BGP and traffic engineering policies on Juniper and Arista
• Experience with firewalls, load-balancers, DDOS mitigation, and VPN appliances
• Experience with MLAG, VARP/VRRP, RSTP, and other data center networking technologies in a multi-VRF

environment

• Functional knowledge of working in Linux or other Unix operating systems
• Experience with open-source network monitoring tools and network management protocols such as OpenNMS,

Rancid, Elastiflow, SNMP, Syslog

• Experience with any of the following is a plus: automation, server and network virtualization technologies, open

source software

Additional Preferred Knowledge

• ITIL v2/v3 Foundation Certification
• MSSP or IT Security Infrastructure consultant a plus
• Instructional delivery and/or instruction design experience
• Scripting languages such as Python, Perl, shell scripting, unix utilities
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
• Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
• Juniper Networks Certified Internet Specialist (JNCIS)
• Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP)
