The mission of the Department of Corrections is to be a public safety resource for Arkansas families by providing professional management solutions and evidence-based rehabilitative initiatives for offenders.
All DOC positions are designated as Safety Sensitive Positions and are subject to random drug testing pursuant to the Secretarial Directive governing Personnel Drug Testing. Medical marijuana usage, as defined in Amendment 93 of the Arkansas Constitution, prohibits Personnel in a Safety-Sensitive Position from the use of medical marijuana even if they are qualifying patient under the amendment and/or hold a registry identification card. Department Personnel are prohibited from the use or possession of a medicinal marijuana card pursuant to this policy and state law.

Summary
The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) Assistant Head Farm Manager is responsible for overseeing and participating in agricultural activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Functions
Supervises a medium-sized service-maintenance staff by interviewing applicants, recommending for hire, providing training, assigning and reviewing work, terminating, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Oversees and trains inmates engaged in farming activities and makes work assignments. Prepares purchase requests for high yield seedlings, writes equipment specifications, and obtains bid quotes for repair parts. Performs and supervises preventive maintenance on farm equipment and prepares repair orders for major repairs. Maintains various records, including planting dates, chemicals applied, total yield of crops, and inmate and equipment hours used in the production of crops. Mixes chemicals and/or fertilizers to ensure proper crop application. Maintains security by counting inmates several times daily, writing inmate disciplinarians, and transporting inmates. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of institutional rules and regulations. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of employees and inmates. Ability to evaluate needs, estimate cost, and prepare bid specifications. Ability to perform routine maintenance on farm equipment. Ability to maintain records and files. Ability to maintain inmate security.
Minimum Qualifications
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus seven years of experience in agriculture, farm operations, or a related field, including two years of experience in correction farm operations. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
