Job Summary:The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will lead and manage all aspects of environmental, health, and safety programs with a focus on chemical safety and compliance. The role involves developing and implementing policies to ensure that the company complies with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, especially those related to hazardous chemicals, while also maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. This individual will be responsible for risk assessments, emergency response planning, chemical safety training, and continuous improvement of EHS initiatives.Key Responsibilities:EHS Program Development & Management:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve EHS policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Manage the company’s chemical safety programs, including handling, storage, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations like OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  • Lead the implementation of sustainability programs focused on reducing the environmental impact of chemical processes, waste minimization, and energy efficiency.

Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental and safety regulations, including air and water permits, chemical management (EPA, OSHA), and waste disposal regulations.
  • Maintain records of chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and ensure all safety documentation is current and easily accessible.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies (e.g., Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory, emissions reports) on time and ensure all permits are renewed and maintained.

Chemical Risk Management:

  • Conduct chemical risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) for chemical processes and ensure compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) standards.
  • Oversee the management of chemical spills and emergency response plans, ensuring readiness to handle any hazardous material incidents.

Training & Development:

  • Provide leadership and guidance to all employees on EHS matters, with a focus on chemical safety and hazardous material handling.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive EHS training programs, including chemical hazard communication, PPE use, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure employees are up to date with safety training and understand the risks associated with chemical exposure.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Actions:

  • Lead investigations into any incidents, accidents, and near-misses, especially those involving chemical exposure or environmental releases.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain and analyze EHS performance data, such as injury rates, incident frequency, and environmental impact, and provide recommendations for improvement.

Audit & Inspection Leadership:

  • Conduct internal EHS audits, including chemical safety compliance, to identify potential risks and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Manage external audits from regulatory agencies and ensure prompt resolution of any findings.
  • Ensure routine safety inspections of facilities, equipment, and chemical storage areas.

Emergency Response & Preparedness:

  • Lead the development and execution of emergency response plans, including drills for chemical spills, fires, and other hazards.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for EHS incidents and emergency situations, working with local authorities and emergency responders when necessary.

Continuous Improvement & Culture Building:

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement by identifying trends in incidents and near-misses, and implementing best practices for chemical safety.
  • Foster an organizational safety culture through leadership, employee engagement, and recognition programs.
  • Stay current on EHS regulations and advancements in chemical safety management to ensure the company remains at the forefront of EHS standards.

Qualifications:Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree or additional certifications (CSP, CIH, CHMM) are preferred.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of EHS management experience in a chemical manufacturing or process-intensive environment.
