We are looking for a Network Engineering Co-Op to implement, maintain, and support deployments of our CertScan platform. You will be part of a systems engineering team that is responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet business objectives and SLAs. The Network Engineer Co-Op role is to ensure the stability and integrity of equipment used to provide the data transmissions network required to enable the service provisioned by the customer while ensuring the continuous improvement of these services using industry best practices. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. This position will work both independently and on a team on the design, installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.
Responsibilities
- 40% Analyze network performance, troubleshoot issues, and make the appropriate decisions independently to repair as needed.
- 20% Deploy region LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless APs and other hardware while providing protection from disaster through redundancy and recovery procedures while working both independently and on a team.
- 20% Create and maintain documentation as it relates to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records.
- 20% Maintain and manage configurations including ensuring proper documentation is completed and process is followed.
- Work closely with the customers IT team to meet and exceed Compliance and Design standards.

- Continually assess current state of the network against industry best practices and provide recommendations to improve throughput and reduce failure through the use of redundancy and process.
- Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and processes for network administration, utilization, and disaster recovery to include continual improvement.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to procure network products and services.
- Work individually or with a team on new and existing equipment, hardware, and software upgrades.
- Maintain and manage configurations including ensuring proper documentation is completed and process is followed.
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues and make the necessary decisions required to repair as needed.
- Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, firewalls, and other network appliances.
- Configure networks to ensure reliable operation and availability for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
- Maintain network hardware such as routers, switches, firewalls, VPN concentrators to include associated software and peripheral devices.
- Practice network asset management using CMDB, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
- Monitor and periodically test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
- Participate in managing all network security solutions.
- Perform network and security audits ensuring all systems are backed up and recovery procedures are available.

Qualifications
- High School diploma required.
- Ability to make appropriate independent decisions and implement as needed.
- Knowledge of network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
- Good, hands-on technical knowledge of network hardware and operating systems, including Cisco routers and switches, Fortinet firewalls and switches and VPN concentrators.
- Good technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including IPv6.
- Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Able to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
- Ability to present complex technical ideas in user-friendly language.
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
- Skilled with analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Good hardware troubleshooting knowledge.
- Support knowledge with sniffers, network analyzers, line toners, and network statistics and reporting tools.
- Competence with testing tools and procedures for data circuits.
- Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws including PCI and SOX.
Other Qualifications:
- Able to work On-call as required.
- Able to travel/drive to multiple locations if required.
