Join the Whole Vehicle Acoustics team as the Technical Manager – Sound Quality & Design where you’ll be covering powertrain & exhaust sound quality, as well as new emerging areas of adaptive soundscapes, functional sounds and cross modal experiences. Reporting into the Head of Powertrain & Chassis Acoustics & Acoustics Strategy your main responsibilities include;
- Accountability for developing and influencing the Bentley Sound strategic technical direction
- Functional ownership of Bentley Sound Design, including compliance with legislative noise regulation
- Setting and delivering subjective and objective Sound Quality attribute targets
- Defining the required acoustic specifications of the part and systems that influence and deliver the attribute performance. These could range from passive exhaust to active sound enhancement systems.
- Influence and leverage benefits of common Group platform development
- Lead development of new processes and methodologies to enhance Whole Vehicle capability and competence
- Support and develop the skills of the wider Whole Vehicle team through knowledge transfer and collaboration with research/academic institutions and VW Group counterparts

As part of the Whole Vehicle Physics team – Acoustics is responsible for the delivery of all NVH attributes across the entire Bentley portfolio. The Sound Quality of Bentley products has always been one of our key class-leading attributes, highly sought-after and valued by our customers. As Bentley now embarks upon its Beyond100 strategy, within a rapidly developing technology landscape and market place, we must ensure that we maintain our competitive advantage, which is becoming even more challenging than ever before as we transition from traditional internal combustion engine to electric motor propulsion, within a disruptive market place.About you – Skills and ExperienceThe ideal applicant will be a highly motivated and creative individual, able to not only generate innovative ideas in the discipline of sound design, but also possess the knowledge, skill and capability via cross-functional collaboration to translate these into mature concepts, providing our customers with extraordinary journeys and experiences.
- Excellent communication skills, combined with the ability to collaborate with and deliver results through a broad range of stakeholders across the business
- Possession of the necessary technical skills in order to use and design sounds to enhance existing features or integrate into new UX innovations
- Good understanding and experience of electrical integration of sound function related technologies into vehicle architectures
- Product development experience with relevant technical insights, design guidance, development methodologies, feature content & technical recommendations
- Experience of AVAS sound design and calibration to meet worldwide legislative requirements and brand DNA as well as propulsion and functional sound development and delivery is required
- A strong attention to detail combined with the ability to problem solve and deliver tangible improvements within a deadline and to budget
- Project management skills with the ability to effectively plan, organise, prioritise and manage multiple tasks, including outsource partners
- An Engineering degree or equivalent relevant experience
