Our client, a leading medical device innovator in Galway, Ireland, is seeking an experienced Senior R&D Engineer with a specialised focus on catheter materials and processing technology. Our client is looking for a seasoned designer with a proven track record in bringing new products from concept to Design Freeze/Design Verification, or in delivering significant technical advancements to existing products. With over 10 years of experience in the medical device industry, the ideal candidate will have extensive expertise in catheter materials and processing technology, having led design thinking sessions, driven design reviews, and worked in a self-directed capacity.Key Responsibilities:
- Design Leadership: Lead and manage the design process, from initial concept to Design Freeze/Design Verification, ensuring the highest standards of quality and innovation.
- Ergonomics & Human Factors Engineering: Expertise in designing for ergonomics, human factors engineering, and design for moulding, ensuring that products are user-friendly and manufacturable.
- Technical Proficiency: Demonstrate proficiency in SolidWorks, Design Control, and robust tolerancing, ensuring that designs are both innovative and manufacturable.
- Creativity & Innovation: Deliver novel designs or significant new generations of existing products, showcasing a strong ability to innovate within the medical device space.
- Problem Solving & Leadership: Exhibit leadership qualities in driving team direction, fostering a collaborative and solution-oriented environment.
- Preferred Experience: Preference will be given to candidates with electrical experience, particularly those who have worked on products where electronics were integrated, handling motions, sensors, and gathering patient data.

Required Skills:Experience in the design and development of delivery systems associated with TAVR valve prostheses required. (Materials, design tools, digital twinning)
- Experience with medical device testing of vascular prostheses and/or catheter delivery systems a plus
- Understanding and extensive application of technical principles, theories, and design concepts in implantable products
- Good understanding of the Human Anatomy and cardiovascular physiology is strongly desired
- Broad, working knowledge of manufacturing process for medical devices, design control and Quality Systems.
- Broad, working knowledge of related engineering disciplines such as geometric tolerancing, materials, structural integrity and biocompatiblity.
- Experience with the application, processes and handling of Catheter materials shafts, molding, welding, adhesives.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into key information for various stakeholders required.
- Experience using Minitab or equivalent statistical analysis software
- Knowledge of Design/Process Excellence (Six Sigma) is ideal
- Engineering Design & Development: Solid Works; Analytical methods (e.g. FEA, CFD), etc.
- Proven ability to produce effective solutions to product issues with complex technical requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to listen to customers’ needs, develop solutions to meet their requirements, trust and respect is needed
- Proven ability to effectively interface with customers and internal clients.
- An understanding of clinical/technical applications of cardiovascular products and human anatomy
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical project teams is desired
- A demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team with sense of urgency against timelines is needed
- The ability to work in a team-oriented environment that embraces change, risk management, and flexibility is needed
- This individual must be capable of handling multiple projects/tasks at the same time
- Demonstrated strong leadership and skills in both interpersonal and group settings
- Strong oral and written technical communication skills
- Must have good communication skills, verbal and written
- Demonstrated successful project management and planning as plus ( PM assigned)
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced “agile” engineering environment.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully delegate and produce results under time and resource constraints
- Detailed working knowledge of risk management analysis including Design controls (inputs and outputs( such as generation pf use needs product specifications
- Runing Design of Experiments
- Knowledge of medical devices regulations and experience incorporating manufacturability into the new product development is desired
- Specific knowledge of Domestic and International standards for Cardiac Valve prosthesis
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering is required. An advanced degree is a distinct advantage.

- 7+ years experience with MS Degree
- 4+ years experience with PhD
