The Senior Farm Crew Leader (SFCL) at the Plateau Research and Education Center (PREC) is an important position who provides leadership and support on a daily basis to the farm crew at Crossville. He/She interacts frequently with the Director and Research Associates to accomplish the mission of PREC.
We are looking for a self-starter with the ability to work independently who can supervise, lead, and direct the work of farm personnel and/or students in a fast-paced work environment. The person must be willing to work after hours and weekends as necessary to get the job done and also be on-call 24/7 for emergencies as needed.
Qualifications
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for managing, overseeing, and scheduling over 1,000+ acres of crop research and production with initiative to anticipate and head off problems. Manage numerous demands in efficient manner while maintaining quality and excellence.
Assists research personnel to plan, implement, and conduct research trials; allocates equipment and coordinates personnel to meet research and production needs. Collect, record, document, and communicate production and research project updates and data.
Operate general-purpose, specialized research, farm and heavy power equipment. Oversees maintenance of facilities and equipment promoting a safe, clean work environment.
Seek solutions and efficiencies to solve problems. Plan and prepare for off-season as well as several field days, tours, and other technology-transfer events throughout the year.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- Four years of relevant responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. (Two years’ experience with two years of education in related field.)
- Work experience with livestock production, agronomic crops and equipment used in their production.
- Must hold or obtain in first 6 months of employment a Cat 10 Certified Pesticide Applicators License.
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Technical training or degree preferred.
Through our assessment process you must show that you are able to meet the following job requirements:
- Must possess general construction skills (weld, mechanic, repair/fabricate, carpenter, electrician, plumber, equipment operator, equipment calibration, etc.).
- General knowledge of experimental plot layout and procedures.
- Ability to operate specialized agricultural/heavy equipment, perform agricultural/manual labor in inclement climatic conditions and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to record data and prepare reports related to crops, livestock and equipment.
- Be a good communicator with ability to work well with researchers, coworkers and administrators.
- Must hold or obtain in first 6 months of employment a Class B CDL License with ability and willingness to operate trucks with trailers on the road in a safe and efficient manner.
