Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network – Network Virtualization Engineer III (24-426) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
As a Network Virtualization Engineer and Developer supporting network build-out and deployments to the operational environment, the candidate will work within an agile scrum team and plan work based on customer requirements and program contractual agreements.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, deploy, integrate, and test upgrades to the C2BMC network to operational sites
- Must be able to travel to alternate work locations, such as Schriever Space Force Base, to execute job duties such as deployments, perform network installations, independently perform troubleshooting, and provide status updates to Program personnel
- Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated network engineers as well as independently on large field projects
- Must have experience using the Agile Framework or experience applying Agile fundamentals in engineer-focused work.
Basic Qualifications:
Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
- An active Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
- Bachelor of Science degree in a related discipline with 5 years experience; 9 years experience instead of a degree or Master of Science degree in a related discipline with 3 years experience.
- DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) is required to start.
- VMware Certified Technical Associate – Data Center Virtualization (VCTA) VMware
- Certified Professional:
- Data Center Virtualization (VCP) VCAP Design
- VCAP Deploy
- VCDX
- Proven systems engineer with hands-on mid-level experience and knowledge of virtualization design, development, and testing methodologies
- Experience with:
- VMware (vCenter)
- ESX servers
- NetApp NAS/SAN
- Windows servers
- SQL servers
- In-depth understanding of:
- OSI Model
- TCP/IP
- Routing protocols
- Network traffic analysis
- Diagnostic and troubleshooting
- Must have Microsoft Windows server and Redhat server experience with multi-user applications.
- Required:
- VMware server installation
- Configuration
- Management performance monitoring
- Tuning of virtual machines ESXi servers
- Experience with the development of the tool in addition to common usage.
- Must have virtual machine troubleshooting and performance issues.
- Must have experience creating VM deployment templates and automated deployments.
- Understand network-attached storage, specifically the NetApp FAS series.
- Must have Storage Area Network experience with high availability and performance for virtualization.
- Understanding of standard DOD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current and active TS/SCI is highly desired
- Authentication & encryption methods/capabilities (ACS, Active Directory, GEM-X) are highly desired
- Virtualization technologies such as:
- VMware vCenter
- vSphere
- Familiarity with Networking
- Prior C2BMC experience

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:
Salary Range: $88,600.00 – $133,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
