PE Global are currently recruiting for an Offshore Substation Engineer with a leading design, engineering & project management consultancy to join their team based in Cork/Dublin/Galway.Job DescriptionThe client is one of the world’s leading providers of engineering professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland.We are looking for Electrical Engineer/ Offshore substation Engineer with relevant experience respectively required immediately to in the Dublin, Cork, Galway and Dundalk office.Typical OSW activities:Successful applicant will be expected to provide technical expertise into proposals and projects and to represent the company in client meetings as appropriate.Typical OSW activities include:

  • Feasibility Studies
  • Optioneering Studies
  • Specification preparation
  • Technical Bid Review
  • Design Assurance
  • Design Review
  • Site and FAT visits
  • OEM Support Services
  • Due Diligence
  • Technical expert services
  • Some original design may also be involved

You will liaise with other teams internal and external to clients T&D practice including, but not limited to, the HVDC, Civils, Cable and P&C teams. You shall work closely with these teams to offer our clients a full end to end service.Qualifications:

  • Professionally qualified in an electrical engineering, power engineering or equivalent subject, degree and/or masters (or equivalent) level.
  • Chartered (CEng) or working towards gaining Chartership with a relevant institution.

Technical and industry expertise:

  • Demonstrate a significant knowledge of OSW technology and projects along with a grounding in general power systems engineering.
  • Coordinate across project disciplines, external sub-contractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Significant relevant experience in OSW in an engineering consultancy, typically at Site engineer or Engineering supervisor.
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and requirements management.
  • Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between OSW installations and the Ireland electricity grid.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of OSW scheme design, project lifecycle and practical considerations associated with OSW projects.
  • Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers and develop client relationships.
  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experienced in creating and presenting technical reports; and responding to clients’ technical questions.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with experienced staff, the candidate will complete physical engineering designs and the generation of professional plans and specifications, technical calculations, exhibits and reports.
  • Knowledge and understand of Substation Physical Engineering design of utility and renewable substations.
  • Design to current codes and standards (Eirgrid, ESB, NG, IEC, IEEE).
  • Performs and executes technical calculations with supervision.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and the project engineering team for structural and civil design requirements.
  • Respect and enforce policies and procedures in the preparation of drawings.
  • Realize the different stages of the project in the timeframes and budgets. Provide guidance for project schedules and allotted hours for project tasks.
