SUMMARY:
The person in this position will primarily support regional accounting functions, compile and analyzes financial reporting; record financial transactions; reconciliation of balance sheet accounts; support other departments as needed; resolves routine questions and problems; and refers more complex tasks to higher levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in various aspects of closing and reporting of assigned regional and centralized duties, including preparation of journal entries, analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, and analysis of variances within the income statement and balance sheet accounts.

Prepare and post general ledger transactions for regional assigned tasks.

Support in financial reporting analysis related to the accounting of regional centralized tasks.

Assist in specific areas of accounting as assigned such as capital accounting.

Complete reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts.

Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures and internal controls.

Support other regional and corporate departments as needed.

Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits.

Assist with other projects and perform other duties as required.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
-
Railroad experience is not required.

Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)

One to three years of related work experience is a plus.

Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully, and develop alternative solutions.

Good interpersonal and communications skills; ability to focus on resolving conflict, speak and write clearly and persuasively, listen to get clarification, and respond well to questions.

Ability to build trust by treating customers, peers, and others with integrity and respect, upholding organizational values, and keeping commitments.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, preferred

Degrees in finance, business, other related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience, will also be considered
