The Knight Campus Business Operations and Administration Team (BOAT) operates as a hub of experts who provide high-quality, exceptional business operations, and administrative services to all units and programs in the Knight Campus. Service areas include full-cycle activities in human resources operations, financial operations, research administration/operations, academic administration/operations, and general business operations. The BOAT provides business services to all Knight Campus units which are continually growing at a remarkable pace as we scale up to achieve our mission of science-advancing society with a vision to dramatically shorten the timeline between discovery and societal impact through world-class research, training, and entrepreneurship.

Position Summary

The Knight Campus seeks a detail-oriented, organized, and highly productive Accounting Technician to provide financial transaction support for our research, innovation, and academic operations.

The Accounting Technician, under the supervision of the Finance Manager, plays a vital role in maintaining the financial integrity of the Knight Campus. They use bookkeeping skills to record, examine, and reconcile expenditure and revenue transactions and records to maintain accountability in accordance with statutory requirements, university policy, and general accounting principles and procedures. They also perform duties related to payroll, purchasing, and/or inventory control, accounts payable/receivable, and related clerical work.

Responsibilities encompass verifying accounts (to ensure proper audit trail and to ensure that recording procedures have been followed) and for tracking errors, allocating costs to accounts, technical account examination and/or error tracking, and resolution. Account examination at this level involves the use of bookkeeping skills to break down transactions and track individual elements through the accounting information system(s).

The Accounting Technician handles daily accounting and related transactions, analysis, and reporting for the Knight Campus, including preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual expenditure reports, accounts receivable and payable, processing journal vouchers, and tracking and executing on financial commitments. The individual in this role will be in daily contact with department and agency staff to discuss topics such as budget and/or fund balances, payment status, document errors, purchase requests or policy, and procedure questions. As needed, contact is made with vendors to discuss invoices, purchase orders, shipping documents, or payment status.

Effective communication and collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and external partners from diverse backgrounds are essential aspects of this role, all while upholding the highest ethical standards in the workplace.

Minimum Requirements

• 12 quarter hours (8 semester hours) of Accounting courses AND
• An Associates Degree in Accounting; OR
• One year of experience that includes entering, compiling and/or reporting financial information; OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Proficiency with a variety of software including Microsoft Office and Google Suite apps.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, CMA and/or Advanced degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, business administration, or closely related field.
• At least one year of experience working in a higher education institution with responsibility for understanding federal and state financial regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Experience with Cognos and BANNER or similar financial information system (FIS) software.
