| Job Description | Under supervision of the Research Analyst for the program, the Agricultural Aide will perform routine trades work to support scientific research in horticulture and aquaponics. Individual will assist in maintaining experimental research plots. Primary duties will include assisting Trades Leader with farm machinery operation and maintenance, maintenance and repairs of infrastructure (fences, water lines, greenhouses, storage sheds and vehicles), grounds maintenance (mowing, weed eating, and brush clearing). The Agriculture Aide will also work with the Trades Leader to manage an inventory of tools, supplies and hardware to be used as part of the work. The Agriculture Aide will be required to become certified and work with pesticides as part of the grounds maintenance. |
| Required Qualifications | High School diploma or GED and agriculture-related mechanical experience. Experience operating and repairing agriculture equipment and machinery. Knowledge of: Farm machinery, mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, agriculture. Essential skills – mechanic, tractor operation, use of farm implements, use of power tools, basic math, oral and written communication in English. Abilities to: Operate and repair farm equipment, work independently, maintain inventory of parts and supplies, prioritize tasks, develop and adhere to maintenance and repair schedules, and work for a variety of research programs. | Physical Demands | Employee will be required to work outdoors in hot weather, as well as indoors. This position requires the employee to be able to lift 50 lbs and carry it at least 25 yards. |
