Assistant Accountant

The Assistant Accountant is a newly created role in the finance team. The role will report into the Senior Financial Accountant and will support the end to end financial and accounting processes for the business including helping to set up and implement new processes, controls, and reconciliations. Furthermore, the role will be required to develop analytics and insight on Staff Costs and Revenue, working closely with key stakeholders within Finance, Operations, and the wider Corporate functions to provide insightful financial information that will be used by the broader business including the UK Executive and Group Finance in the US.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To perform accounting and finance operational processes, performing reconciliations across different systems and the balance sheet,.

  • Transition the remaining duties reconciliations and reports in relation to the Repair Solutions business to our Shared Service Centre provider, Accenture, ensuring that processes are being followed correctly and governance is maintained.

  • To prepare monthly journals, including accruals, prepayments and intercompany entries ensuring all accounting entries are supported and accurate and working with our offshore services to ensure they are posted correctly and within SLA timescales.

  • To undertake monthly variance analysis and ad hoc analysis as required.

  • To support the team in the end-to-end audit process, working with the auditors on substantive testing and variance analysis.

  • Supporting the Financial Accountant in implementing improvements in the financial control environment, communicating any new processes and controls clearly to the finance team and business, ensuring they are put in to practice effectively and monitoring performance of the controls.

  • Performing daily Treasury activities and ensuring cash allocations are done on a timely basis and overseeing the loading of AR activity from CODA to SAP for Repair Solutions.

  • Support with the implementation of SAP HANA ensuring reporting, transactional activity etc are accurate and working as expected at go-live.

  • To support the wider finance team on ad hoc work as required.

You will have/will be:

  • Demonstrable experience in an Assistant Accountant role or equivalent in industry (including Month End and Financial Controls in a corporate environment).

  • Be studying for a Professional qualification (ACCA / CIMA / ACA or equivalent).

  • A sound communicator, and able to identify when to escalate or raise issues.

  • A self-starter, proactive, that will be able to work autonomously, with a continuous improvement mindset.
