We are recognised by our clients as strategic partners with deep commercial instincts and a commitment to creatively anticipating their needs and delivering excellence in everything we do.We are a collegial, collaborative, and diverse firm where highly motivated individuals with an unwavering commitment to excellence receive the opportunity, support, and development they need to grow, thrive, and realise their greatest potential all while supporting the Firm’s client service principles of excellence, strategic partnership, commercial instinct, integrated strengths, innovation, and collaboration across our international firm.If you enjoy working with team members whose defining characteristics are exceptional client service, initiative, professionalism, responsiveness, and adaptability, you may be the person we are seeking to join our Banking and Finance group in our London office as an Associate.The Role:Associate – Banking & FinanceWe are currently recruiting for a mid-level associate to join our Derivatives and Structured Finance team in our London office.The role offers a varied workload and the opportunity to work closely with partners focusing on derivatives and structured products.As an Associate in the team you will work on derivatives matters covering principally the following areas:ISDA based hedging arrangements for structured finance transactions; structured total return swaps and repos; initial margin (IM) an variation margin (VM) under the global margin rules; structured products and repackaging issuances; derivatives legal opinions; clearing, and general ISDA documentation advice.The ideal candidate would also have expertise in at least two of the following derivatives assets classes: credit derivatives; equity derivatives; interest rate derivatives; fx derivatives and commodity derivatives.Our clients include a wide range of the largest derivatives market-making banks, as well as other smaller international banks. We also represent insurance companies, pension funds, hedge funds, asset managers and corporates on their derivatives matters We act on a wide range of matters covering the full range of asset-classes of derivatives and structured finance products. We regularly act together with our Pensions, Corporate, Insurance, Litigation, Regulatory, Real Estate, Securitisation, Capital Markets and Project Finance practices, where derivatives forms part of a broader transaction. We also regularly work with all of Mayer Brown’s international offices..The Derivatives & Structured Products Practice; Banking & Finance Department:The Derivatives & Structured Products Group sits within the Banking & Finance Department. The Global Derivatives & Structured Products Group comprises 7 partners and 24 fee earners, and within London 2 partners and a team of 4 associates.The Derivatives & Structured Products Practice is ranked Tier 2 by both Chambers and Legal 500. We are also highly ranked in the US and Germany.Our practice won derivatives Global Law Firm of the Year at the 2019 Global Capital Derivatives Awards, as well as European Law Firm of the Year on multiple occasions between 2015 and today, including this year, and each of the years between 2015 and 2021. We have been US Law Firm of the Year for seven consecutive years.The successful candidate will work closely with partners Edmund Parker and Nanak Keswani, both of whom are highly regarded in the derivatives market and by the legal directories. Qualifications:Qualified Solicitor (England and Wales) 3-6pqeThe PQE level identified here is indicative only. - Experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating documentation.
- Prior experience in Derivatives and Structured Finance
- Working as part of a team and taking an active part in sharing knowledge and experience with the team;
- Excellent people skills and a good, clear communication style;
- Engaging with internal and external counsel in London and in overseas jurisdictions;
- Experience from a highly ranked practice or team;
- Demonstrate ability to confidently interact with clients and develop business pro-actively;
- A commercial and pragmatic outlook;
- Experience in advising on cross border matters will be helpful;
- Have attained degree certificate(s) from a reputed institution, achieving a minimum grade of 2:1 or equivalent.
