Unleash your superpower and bring energy to life.National Grid is hiring an Associate Connections Engineer (Offers) for our Customer Connections Team based in Warwick.About the roleAs an Associate Connection Engineer (Offers) you’ll play a key part in the connections process, leading on the development of both solutions and costs for new projects as well as working with established Users to modify their existing connection solutions.You’ll be interacting with traditional User groups such as generators, large demand loads and Distribution Networks as well as those newer emerging technologies such as Hydrogen projects and large Data Centre connections. You will be at the heart of a variety of works and working within a multi-disciplinary team, designing and developing to budget and deadline, with safety at the heart of everything you do.What you’ll doYou will provide support and take a lead role in resolving both customer, NESO and other key Stakeholder queries during the connection application journey to ensure that our decision-making process is fully transparent, and their expectations managed.You will be a key part of a multi-disciplined investment team for a portfolio of customer investments for the GB Electricity Transmission System in support of the investment driver up to and including the handover to the EPC Project Manager.Other accountabilities:

  • Work in collaboration with Contract and Relationship Managers and Power System Engineers to develop connection offers for various customer groups, generators and Distribution Networks within agreed timescales.
  • Using various design tools and systems, develop connections solutions that provide details of both scope, cost and programme timescales, whilst adhering to industry frameworks and internal governance.
  • Actively support the Contract and Relationship Managers and regional multi-disciplinary teams during the connections process, acting as Subject Matter Expert for the offer process and ensuring that the technical, commercial and legal positions are aligned.
  • Lead the development and costing for less complex customer connection investment up to the point that a proposal has been developed, and an investment driver has been established.
  • Develop a range of costed delivery programme options for each project to discuss with the customer to ensure best fit and solution with their requirements.

What you’ll needYou’ll need to be curious and tenacious in your approach with a genuine passion to contribute towards the delivery of projects that will be critical to the UK’s decarbonisation objectives. You will have an Engineering degree or relevant engineering/project management experience in the development or construction of infrastructure projects in utilities or a similar field. You’ll either have chartership or be working towards it with an institute such as the IET. You will have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.We would also look for you to be able to demonstrate all or some of the following:

  • Knowledge of the Electricity Transmission System and primary assets preferred
  • Skilled in electricity industry principles and processes
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with customers, stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Regularly seeks customer feedback to assess satisfaction levels and identify any areas for improvement. Acts on areas for improvement and creates a feedback loop.
  • Good problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence outcomes
  • Awareness of relevant business processes and frameworks
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in project planning, project delivery and financial controls.
