The Production Project Supervisor, under the direction of the Production Project Manager, ensures that the Welfare production project is properly managed and technically directed concerning the planting, cultivating, irrigating, harvesting, packing, and marketing of farm products, or the calving, feeding, branding, and marketing of cattle for the Welfare Services Storehouse system. If supervising a farm operation, understands cultural practices (e.g. seed types and limitations, fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides) to ensure maximum quality and quantity of harvested products. If operating a ranch operation, ensures optimum cattle productivity and profitable growth by performing a variety of functions which maximize daily gains and feed conversions, and minimize death loss. The incumbent supervises and coordinates activities of the workforce (paid, volunteer, and church service) for a specific area of the production operation and reports directly to the Production Project Manager. Responsible to prepare and monitor budgets and financial reports and to maintain production records.

50% Supervise operation of a specific area of production project (crop or livestock), including planting, cultivating, harvesting, packing & marketing crops, or feeding, observing, inspecting, sorting, calving, treating & marketing cattle.

15% Provides training, direction/supervision to other employees & volunteers. Ensure their safety.

15% Ensure grounds/facilities (farm/range land, fencing, housing, corrals, shops, etc.) are maintained in a way that reflects Church standards.

15% Ensure proper maintenance records are kept. Direct employees. Assist in performing necessary repairs and prev. maintenance on equipment.

5% Maintain accurate records and receipts for products produced and shipped from project. Prepare and manage assigned area budget in coordination with Production Project Manager.

  • This position typically supports a larger farm or ranch within the system (more than 2,000 acres), depending on experience.

Demonstrates exceptional judgement. Generally has Bachelor’s Degree in Agri-science, Agri-business, or related field and at least eight (8) years of relevant farm/ranch management experience or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. For current employees, two years are required in Asst. Farm Manager 3 before one can be promoted to Asst. Farm Manager 4. Sound understanding of the technical and economic aspects of crop or livestock production. Able to maintain and make most repairs on heavy farm equipment. Able to easily read, understand and analyze soil conditions. Good understanding of farm/ranch accounting and finance. Demonstrated knowledge of soils, fertilizers, crop rotation, irrigation system, etc., as it relates to agriculture or livestock production and basic knowledge of sound safety practices. Must be physically active in order to move or lift objects, climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, etc. Frequently moves or lifts 50 lbs. and occasionally 100 lbs. or more with assistance. Able to traverse ditches and fences. Able to wear safety equipment and clothing as required and work around chemicals as found in fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides. Able to generate reports and communications using computer and related software. Capable of operating a squeeze chute, doctoring sick cattle, branding, ear tagging, receiving and sorting cattle. Able to sit long hours on noisy, vibrating equipment in dusty, hot, wet and/or cold environment. Ability to manage all aspects of the farm in the absence of the farm manager. Understands good irrigation scheduling. Able to scout fields and accurately identify insect and disease problems. Able to monitor animal health, nutrition, and reproduction. Must possess pesticide certification. Attend, annually, seminars or professional meetings to maintain and upgrade technical skills (irrigation farms only). Maintain certification-related credentials.
