Research areas in the team include distributed computing, decentralized computing, AI/ML software systems, and privacy-preserving & trust insertion technologies. Our mission is to increase trust in trustless environments by re-thinking the design of data and compute infrastructures. We create novel technologies and scalable software systems with mathematical verification at their core, enabling secure collaboration and federation while ensuring trust, privacy, provenance and verification. We are looking for a researcher on Privacy Enhancing Technologies (MPC, ZKP, FHE, …) to join us.Our international team is based in Antwerp (Belgium) and Stuttgart (Germany).What you will learn and contribute toAre you passionate about improving how software and software systems get built? Then join us in building the next generation of trustworthy software systems at Nokia Bell Labs, the birthplace of software pearls like UNIX and C.Location: The position is based in Antwerp (Belgium).Responsibilities:As a research scientist on Privacy Enhancing Technologies in our team you will:

  • Define, explore and present new research challenges in the area of Privacy Enhancing Technologies: MPC (secure Multi-Party Computation), ZKP (Zero-Knowledge Proofs), FHE (Fully Homomorphic Encryption)
  • Contribute to the technical definition of research objectives and programs
  • Push the boundaries of the state-of-the-art in your area of expertise and publish the research at leading academic and/or industrial forums
  • Build proof-of-concept demonstrators, create re-usable software implementations and evangelize your work to the research community
  • Create new intellectual property through code, patents, prototypes, papers, etc.
  • Work with Bell Labs researchers across the globe, and external academic and industrial partners, on challenging technical research projects. Keep an active and visible role in the research community through conference committees and reviewing panels
  • Work with Nokia business units and incubators to incubate research into early-stage products or spin-outs, transfer knowledge and to act as expert counsel in your field of expertise

Qualifications:We are looking for a motivated research scientist with academic or applied research experience in one of the following areas of computer science research:

  • Privacy Enhancing Technologies: MPC (secure Multi-Party Computation), ZKP (Zero-Knowledge Proofs), FHE (Fully Homomorphic Encryption)
  • The general field of applied cryptography
  • Distributed software systems

In addition:

  • You have a PhD degree in Computer Science / Applied Cryptography / Electrical Engineering / ICT Engineering. Post-doc experience or industry experience is a plus
  • Publications in top ACM, IEEE and IACR conferences are a definite plus
  • You are a great communicator, able to explain your research to a broad audience. You have delivered talks at relevant international workshops, conferences, or other events
  • You have demonstrable programming skills, and you like to build working prototypes. Pointers to research prototypes you have built or open source libraries you have contributed to, are much appreciated
  • You are a quick learner, able to identify & research new technologies
  • You have personal drive, are committed to team objectives and have a positive, “can-do” attitude. You can work autonomously with little day-to-day guidance
  • You feel comfortable working in an international environment where English is the main language
