Budget & Fiscal Compliance Specialist, U.S.

POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks a Budget & Fiscal Compliance Specialist, U.S. to support U.S. Programs from the HQ office, with responsibility for the budget, as well as planning, tracking and monitoring of funding, including grants.

Note, the salary range for this position is $65,000.00-70,000.00.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages reporting, compliance and recognition of U.S. Programs grants for assigned portfolio.
  • Maintains the list of HIAS affiliate network’s points of contact and keeps it current.
  • Prepares monthly grant budget-to-actual reports and communicates spending trends to program managers.
  • Liaises with program and other HIAS teams to ensure the funds are used in accordance with donor intentions or appropriate modifications are requested.
  • Completes and uploads financial reports into various federal reporting platforms.
  • Works closely with U.S. Programs and the Budget & Fiscal Compliance teams to assist affiliates on all financial agreements, monitoring and reporting, including creation of financial reporting workbooks for affiliates.
  • Reviews and approves payment invoices via NetSuite for affiliates, consultants, vendors, and other service providers.
  • Assists with the budgeting process for US Programs grant proposals.
  • Actively participates in the creation and preparation of U.S. affiliate and HQ finance training sessions and tools.
  • Assists with the annual HIAS budgeting process for the assigned portfolio.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of laws, regulations, policy, and other requirements that affect grants management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, International Affairs or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of work experience, with experience in analysis and interpretation of budgets and grants preferred.
  • Experience working with a domestic or international nonprofit preferred.
  • Experience with using NetSuite system is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to problem solve required; the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial staff is also required.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task is required; also must be detail-oriented and able to see both the big picture, as well as the smallest details.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required.
  • Intermediate level or higher Microsoft Excel skills required.
  • Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
