Job Description:.You might hire a GIS analyst to:Implement spatial analysis such as distance calculations and spatial overlaysReport to senior geospatial analysts about their findingsDevelop mapping applications and similar tools regarding geographical mappingAnalyse and write reports on spatial data as a geodata analystAdapt physical maps into digitally storable versionsDesign accurate and reliable map layouts as per the standard templatesObjectives of this roleSupport the various departments within the organisation in all aspects of GIS data integration and analysisTrain and mentor junior GIS analysts and other supporting staffHelp make integral decisions on how the land must be utilised as per research and spatial data analysisLiaise with clients based on their findings as a geospatial analystManage the overall budgets, resources and timelines that come with the GIS analyst roleResponsibilitiesWrite clear, concise and reliable reports based on the research done through the spatial mapping softwareDevelop digital maps that translate the actuality of the topographical location using sophisticated toolsManage a digital library by extracting and organising data as a GIS analystImplement cartographic design principles, keeping in mind the basic guidelines, while developing custom geospatial dataKeep track of field data and collaborate with the senior GIS analyst and various members of governance bodies through the lifespan of each projectStay up-to-date on the dynamic world of GIS technology by reading journals and participating in workshops regarding the sameRequired skills and qualificationsBachelor’s degree in geography, surveying, engineering, or similar disciplinePrior experience working as a GIS analystKnowledge of working with GPS measuring toolsExperience working with software such as CAD, JavaScript, Python, SQL or other geo database softwareProficiency in using mapping toolsGreat verbal and written communication skillsPreferred skills and qualificationsMaster’s degree in geography, engineering or a related fieldExcellent quantitative skillsetExperience in publishing digital maps
