Information Technology Services (ITS), the central IT provider at the University at Albany, seeks applicants for a Business Analyst to support the academic, research, and business needs of this R1 institution. The Business Analyst is responsible for collaborating with stakeholders across the University and within ITS to identify and propose opportunities for innovation and business process improvements to enhance the student experience and maximize staff productivity.

The Business Analyst is a member of a team of IT professionals, responsible for the continuous innovation and improvement of services by analyzing and documenting business processes and providing recommendations for improvements that align with the University’s strategic plan and business unit goals and objectives. They are responsible for the development of business process analysis standards and best practices.

The Business Analyst has intellectual curiosity, keen analytical skills, and quickly grasps new concepts. They are able to cultivate relationships with a wide range of constituents from campus leadership to front-line staff. They provide input and expertise across a wide range of services. The Business Analyst is expected to work well with limited supervision and within a team environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Document requirements and lead business process analysis activities to enhance operational efficiencies. Work closely with stakeholders and technical teams to align business processes with organizational goals. Coach peers and establish best practices for continuous business process analysis improvement.

  • Document requirements and perform business process analysis and design to establish or enhance business process efficiencies.

  • Define business process solution scope and objectives, lead project teams in mapping current to future state processes to align with both short- and long-term business goals.

  • Work closely with technical staff to ensure system designs and enhancements meet the evolving needs of university departments and align with academic, administrative, and research objectives.

  • Lead the development and institutionalization of business process analysis best practices and standards, creating foundational documentation to guide future process improvement initiatives.

  • Facilitate comprehensive reviews of business processes, collaborating with cross-functional teams to evaluate, identify, and recommend data-driven process improvement opportunities that support institutional efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Provide business analysis coaching and guidance to ITS staff members.

  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to: Associate Director of Enterprise Architecture

  • Supervises the following positions: None

  • Interacts with: ITS; academic, research, and business units; external vendors/contractors/consultants; peer institutions

Job Requirements:

  • Applicants must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.

  • Applicants must demonstrate the ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities.

  • Applicants must be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.

  • Applicants must be able to report to campus in-person on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and as needed. This position is eligible to telecommute on Tuesdays and Thursdays, following a probationary period and with supervisor approval.

    Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization.

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in business analysis and design or a related field.

  • 3 years’ experience applying business and/or process analysis concepts such as defining business needs, solution requirements, investigating and implementing potential solutions, and process documentation and improvement.

  • Experience leading cross functional teams and effectively communicating with both functional and technical stakeholders of all organizational levels.

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community

  • Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education and/or familiarity with the unique needs of an academic institution.

  • Experience working in the role of a PeopleSoft Campus Solutions Business Analyst.

  • Experience coaching junior business analysts and/or technical staff in business process analysis and design.

  • IIBA and/or other recognized certifications.

This is a promotional opportunity for current UAlbany employees.

Eligibility for Consideration: SL-4, $85,00-$95,000

  • You must be employed at the University at Albany campus.

  • You must be in a State-funded UUP professional position (MC employees are not eligible).

  • You must have a permanent, term, or probationary appointment. Only temporary employees employed by UAlbany for three or more consecutive years can be considered eligible.
