The Part-Time Business Consultant is responsible for developing and
maintaining impactful consulting relationships with existing and new
North Central Idaho/Region II small business clients, including
pre-ventures, start-ups, and established small businesses.
Hours: Up to 19.5 hours
Hourly: Up to $25 an hour based on education and experience
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or closely related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Minimum of 5 years of small business ownership, management, lending,
business consulting, or an equivalent combination of knowledge,
skill, and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous business experience related to work concerning rural
communities, Native American Entrepreneurs, Women Entrepreneurs,
Veteran Entrepreneurs, and other communities. - Master’s degree in Business or a closely related field.
- Former small business ownership experience.
- Experience in banking, financial services, accounting, and/or
bookkeeping.
Essential Functions

- Provide high-quality, individual, no-cost business coaching and
consulting services to business clients through direct,
interpersonal relationships. - Analyze issues, identify opportunities, and coach clients regarding
business management, marketing, accounting, operations, planning,
leadership, regulations, and other business operations. - Communicate with clients, obtain SBDC service impact verification,
and enter client information into the Center IC database, including
impact and notes. - Refer clients to appropriate resources (if necessary).
- Help center meet Idaho SBDC annual goals including but not limited
to the following: client business starts, capital raised, jobs
created, and/or sales growth. - Connect faculty and students with clients for experiential learning
and problem-solving. - Foster and maintain strong relationships in the business and
economic development communities. - Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information. Identify
any potential conflict of interest and communicate with the client,
other consultants, the Regional Director and the SBDC State Director
to resolve any issue. - Assure compliance with the Center’s customer satisfaction process.
Review evaluations and develop correction plans as necessary. - Contribute to the implementation of the Idaho SBDC Strategic Plan.
This includes development of strategies to market and improve
consulting, training, and research for business owners. - Develop, coordinate, and provide business training workshops as
needed. - Review training programs and evaluations to determine the
effectiveness of programs, instructors, and the changing needs of
businesses. - Attend required training.
- Provide services and training programs to business community
members, including but not limited to Rural Entrepreneurs, Veteran
Entrepreneurs, Women Entrepreneurs, and other populations.
