This vital role provides dedicated Business Management expertise to assist the Managing Director and their wider Leadership team (LT). Working both autonomously and as part of a team managing an extensive and wide range of business support activities to ensure the Managing Director delivers their strategic goals and outcomes.

Partnering with the Personal Assistant, the BM will be accountable for providing an effective framework for the day-to-day management of the office, continuously seeking out opportunities to add value, improve ways of working and drive business improvements.

The BM must exercise a high level of sound and independent judgement, problem-solving skills and have exceptional organisational and communication skills. This is a highly influential role in what can be a challenging environment. They will need to be resilient and adept at extracting insights and translating these into balanced and actionable intelligence for the Managing Director and their leadership team.

The BM will work across organisational boundaries and stakeholders and be a key member and contributor to the LT, providing advice and counsel, whilst bringing empathy and energy. Must be confident and adept at leading and delivering special projects and championing initiatives.

The Business Change Specialist executes a range of workstreams in delivering the design, development and implementation of policies, processes and working methods progressing the BT Group’s change agility and capabilities

What you’ll be doing

Business Manager

• Produces internal and external material (briefings, slides, keynotes) for Managing Director ensuring key messages are tailored to audience and objectives. As an example, Operations Reviews, Quarterly Business Reviews, internal and external engagements, keynote speeches, Performance reviews.

• Act as a source of resolution and recognised expert in business unit for providing guidance and advice.

• Closed Loop Control (CLC) – Apply CLC across all actions, must have the ability and knowledge to join the dots and understand the context, relationship and interdependencies of actions and key decisions.

• Provides insights and intelligence for Managing Director and LT decision making.

• Extract key messages and initiatives and translate into balanced and actionable intelligence for Leadership team.

• Build trusted relationships with the LT with the ability to influence and challenge.

• Prepares and leads on discrete ad-hoc projects and briefing material as directed by the Managing Director.

Business Planning, Transformation & Strategy

• Partnering with Business Operations, Transformation, HR and Finance facilitates and supports delivery of key improvements across the unit to deliver the objectives and transformational changes.

• Leads on the creation of the Managing Directors scorecard ensuring reporting, mechanisms are in place to identify interventions and mitigate risk.

• Supports the Managing Director in driving unit strategy creating plans and key strategic activities to underpin business objectives and outcomes.

Risk, Audit & Compliance

• Develop a framework to track and monitor Managing Director Risk, Audit and Regulatory Compliance and understands the interdependencies across BT, working with the business operations team.

Team Meeting Governance

• Delivers and manages a robust governance structure to support leadership team meetings, to include:

o Setting agendas.

o Maintaining a ‘future’ list of themes and topics.

o Secretary, taking minutes and actions, ensuring priority actions are addressed quickly.

o Distribution of papers and creation of online data repository for Leadership Team and their PA’s.

o Provide Chair brief and ensure effective chairmanship.

o Implementation of a tracking process for discharging actions (Closed Loop Control).

Leadership Team Member

• Integral member of the leadership team, leading on all business management activities for Managing Director office.

• Provides advise and coaching to deliver best practice.

• On behalf of Managing Director champions change, improvements, initiatives and projects.

Communications Partner

• Partnering with internal communications and Personal Assistant, owns and manages the Managing Director communication plan and events – including meetings, all hands and webcasts.

• Supports drafting unit specific communications on behalf of Director.

• Identifies content to the internal communications team on behalf of unit that can be shared wider across Networks.

Experience you’d be expected to have

• Mandatory: Degree or at least 5 years equivalent experience in either a commercial, business or management role in a large organisation.

• Experienced at collaborating across teams to deliver improvements and change.

• Experienced at resolving complex issues to resolution.

• Experienced influencer, negotiator and decision making.

• Recognised as an expert in their field.

• A good working knowledge of the unit and the interdependencies of Technology and BT.

• Experienced change agent adopting continuous improvement.

• Strong experience of stakeholder management at MD level.

• Programme office / management experience.

• A good understanding of relevant technologies, tools and processes.
