Primary Purpose: To provide exceptional cleaning services in high volume locations on campus.  (Voyageur Place, McEown Park, and other USask residence buildings).

Nature of Work: Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, this is a front-line customer service position with frequent contact with students in an environment of occasional interruptions, changing priorities and numerous deadlines.  The work involves heavy physical labour and working safely with cleaning agents and solvents.

Typical Duties/Accountabilities: Cleaning washrooms (and all related fixtures), common areas, student rooms and apartments; cleaning stoves, refrigerators and other appliances; cleaning floors (use of dry and wet mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, shampooing equipment, automatic scrubbing machines, stripping, waxing and polishing); performing minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, tightening and replacing screws in furniture, maintaining cleaning equipment; washing walls and windows. Washroom and bathroom cleaning and disinfecting including shower disinfecting and other daily used areas. Other tasks of a similar nature that arise can be assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Completion of Grade 10, Basic English reading; written and verbal communication skills at the appropriate level for the position. 

Experience: Experience in operating hand and power cleaning equipment; use of cleaning agents, strippers, waxing systems, etc. would be an asset.  Customer service and teamwork experience essential.  Must be conscious of recycling and sustainability.

Skills: Mechanical aptitude and ability to maintain equipment and make minor furniture repairs; physical ability to lift and move heavy objects (large tables, chairs, appliances, etc.) and perform other heavy manual labour; cooperative attitude; proficient housekeeping skills and accurate record keeping; effective interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal); demonstrated ability to work well under supervision as well as independently and as part of a team in a busy environment and the ability to follow a systematic cleaning routine.

Hours of work are variable and indefinite. Flexibility in hours is available, however, ideally we are looking for applicants who could be available for full shifts as required. A full shift is Monday to Friday 8am – 4:30pm, with occasional evenings and weekends. Please provide your availability in your cover letter.

Salary:
The salary range, based on 1.0 FTE, is $16.35 – 19.61 per hour. The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
