Job Purpose
Responsible for the performance and organization during the shift.
May accept laboratory analysis and related assignments – when required – and ensures timely delivery of laboratory reports by coordinating and managing the complete workflow.
General Responsibilities
- Chief analyst, shall assist Laboratory Manager and/or Branch Manager in his responsibility duties of the location.
- Chief analyst, is responsible for the efficient organization of all department processes and personnel within the location, during the shift and when necessary, so that he can meet client needs accurately and in time.
- Is responsible for and takes care of running the operation at the lowest possible costs, while meeting the requirements for safety, quality of service, employee satisfaction and maintenance of assets. Chief analyst, must ensure full cooperation with Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager and all other managers on all assignments.
- Must follow all company procedures as established by Saybolt and Core Laboratories, including but not limited to HSE Manual, Accounting Policies & Procedures, Saybolt Administration Instruction Letter, IT procedures, Ethics Policy, Saybolt Compliance Code, etc.Must keep himself updated and aware of all updates and act accordingly.
- Chief analyst reports directly to Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager and/or Branch Manager.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Minimum professionalism certificate related to chemistry/laboratory and/or Chemistry/Engineering university degree; or 2-3 years of relevant customer service or laboratory experience.
- Knowledge of Petrochemical products, chemicals, gases, other liquid cargoes and/or agri products.
- Excellent verbal and written knowledge of local language and English.
- Advanced computer skills (MS Windows, Word, Excel, company systems)

- Leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, good communication skills and team building skills.
- Mental mindset
- Highly organized, positive, problem solving and analytical.
Competencies
- Excellent use of our working tools, connect, excel spreadsheet, etc. Informing and reporting to the clients with certain autonomy and supervision from Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager or Branch Manager.
- Coordinate a teamwork and is capable to organize chemists work with and excellent communication with his Managers.
- Ensures location staff carry-out activities in accordance with individual client instructions, international test methods, Saybolt Standard procedures, Global Safety Manual, risk assessment, local standards/safety rules and Core Laboratories/Saybolt company policies.
- Monitors timelines, communicates progress to clients (e.g. in case of delays, incidents) and intervenes when necessary.
- May accept laboratory analysis and related assignments – when required – and ensures timely delivery of laboratory reports by coordinating and managing the complete workflow between Laboratory, Chemists and Office Staff.
- Reviews laboratory reports/forms for completeness, appropriateness and accuracy.
- Reports updates and final reports to clients on a timely manner to fulfil with company KPI’s.
- May schedule and will participate in safety meeting, investigate accidents, and continually emphasize safety to all laboratory personnel.
- Assists Laboratory Manager to review and approve chemist staff expenses, time records, incentives, etc., related to laboratory activities.
- In collaboration with local Safety Officer, shall ensure that all employees follow safety instructions and premises, equipment and processes are in conformance to HSE Manual and local safety regulations.
- Shall ensure that the IATA requirements for transportation of samples by air are being followed.
- All complaints and claims shall be immediately communicated to Branch Manager and Management.
- The Chief analyst shall organize regular meetings with all staff including the management team to inform or discuss accordingly.
- At any time, Chief analyst can be asked to prepare training presentations for both local and international clients and deliver this training.
- Has a working knowledge of all analysis and safety standards in English, including ASTM, UOP, IP and other well-defined analytical standards and procedures used in the laboratory..
- Assist in setup and implementation of methods and additional applications to maximize capabilities within the location.
- Has attended classroom training and passed appropriate examinations for managing laboratory operations.
- Understand and is able to complete laboratory raw data sheets and make accurate entries into Saybolt’s laboratory computer programs.
- Able to perform and maintain laboratory procedures, equipment calibration, control charting, documentation and records in full compliance with the quality assurance program outlined in Saybolt’s quality manuals and compliance program.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations and traceability of analytical testing results. (e.g. blending calculation rates, ratio, percentage and quantities – linear, volumetric or weight -)

- The employee may be required (depending on location) to work irregular hours / shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays, and days off).
- Must be ready to accept job assignments at any time, including scheduled days off. Participation in the rotation of after hour dispatching activities may be required per the business needs.
- Must be willing and able to perform analytical work as requested safely and in accordance with applicable standards. Must be able to work into the laboratory.
