Position Description: The Communication Specialist will support the program’s overarching communications and thought leadership strategy through impact storytelling, explainer pieces, writing content for the web, writing and producing program newsletters in collaboration with program technical and workstream leads, writing program reports, editing program technical materials (including gender equality guides, course materials, workshop materials, presentations, invitations, and other outreach materials). The Communication Specialist will spearhead and manage the program’s contractual reporting process and liaise with the communications team to design and produce program reports. In collaboration with the Communications Director and Monitoring and Evaluation team, the Communications Specialist will update and manage the program’s marketing materials on a quarterly and annual basis, including, but not limited to, the Factsheet, Results Factsheet, and Overview PPT, among other program marketing assets.

The Communication Specialist (Writing, Editing, and Reporting) role is one of the most collaborative positions on the Engendering Industries team. The individual in this role will consult with technical leads, workstream leads, USAID/Washington and USAID/Missions, and partner companies globally to support the program’s communications and thought leadership agenda. This position is well-suited for a mission-driven, motivated, and energetic self-starter with a positive, inclusive, and creative outlook. The Communications Specialist will collaborate with a large global team to bring final products to fruition. The position can be fully remote from a continental US-based location or hybrid within a commutable distance to either one of our office locations in Winooski, VT or Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities:

* Serve as technical editor on a wide range of programmatic deliverables, including but not limited to course materials and modules, curricula, presentations, and other technical deliverables (see qualifications for more details on required editing skills).

* Collaborate with program technical staff, coaches, and the monitoring and evaluation team (and, in particular, the program’s data scientist) to use quantitative and qualitative data to develop and execute impact stories that demonstrate how the Engendering Industries approach leads to tangible impacts at partner companies worldwide. Using program data and technical lead input, the communications specialist will pitch story ideas and work with the Director of Communications and other team leads to prioritize storytelling in line with program objectives, executing 8-10 impact stories annually.

* Conduct interviews for stories and other editorial content.

* Write explainer pieces that elevate the program’s focal areas.

* Develop, update, and manage the program’s suite of marketing materials in collaboration with the program’s graphic design and production specialist, including program overarching factsheets, result factsheets, overview decks, regional factsheets, etc.

* In collaboration with the Web and Digital Media Manager, draft web content as needed.

* Spearhead and manage the program’s contractual reporting processes and procedures, including quarterly and annual reporting process. This includes soliciting inputs for reports from the program’s workstream and technical leads, and editing to ensure the deliverable is written in a unified voice, streamlining, and eliminating redundancies throughout.

* Respond to client requests for information, in collaboration with the Chief of Party, Director of Communications, and MEL team.

* Support program knowledge management.

* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

* Minimum bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field.

* Minimum five years experience, or 3 years experience with a master’s degree in international communication or development communication.

* Creative thinker, with the ability and passion for crafting compelling and newsworthy stories;

* Demonstrated experience developing compelling and creative written communications materials, including short and longer-form products and social media (writing samples will be requested);

* Experience working with international and/or technical staff and stakeholders to develop communications products;

* Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to be self-directed and work well independently and as well as part of a team; interest in being part of a complex, fast-paced development program.
