Job title:

Control Systems Engineer (R&D)

Company

Munters

Job description

Munters is seeking a Control Systems Engineer with strong software development experience to join our R&D team focused on advanced cooling technologies for data centre applications. You’ll work as part of a cross-functional team designing and testing control systems that power our next-generation heat rejection products, including passive and hybrid thermosyphon-based solutions. This role bridges the gap between control theory and real-world application. You’ll be hands-on with both software and hardware, helping to develop and implement control logic that is critical to the performance of highly efficient, low-energy cooling systems.Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop control logic using Function Block Diagram (FBD) and structured programming methods
  • Integrate and test control software on prototype systems in our R&D lab environment
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical and electrical engineers to define system behaviour
  • Tune and refine control loops (PID, cascaded control, etc.) based on experimental results
  • Contribute to test planning and support data acquisition and analysis for control validation
  • Assist with documentation, version control, and handover to production where needed

What You Bring:

  • Degree in Control Systems, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in software development for control systems, ideally in HVAC, refrigeration, or process environments
  • Proficiency in Function Block Diagram (FBD) programming
  • Understanding of control system fundamentals and real-world system dynamics
  • Experience with industrial sensors, PLCs, and automation hardware
  • Ability to troubleshoot, iterate, and collaborate in a hands-on lab setting

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with Carel and/or Automated Logic Controls (ALC) platforms, though not required
  • Experience working with industrial protocols (Modbus, BACnet, etc.)
  • Background in data centre cooling, refrigeration, or thermal systems
  • Experience in R&D or prototype development environments

Why Join Us?
You’ll be joining a team that’s pushing the boundaries of sustainable cooling for high-performance computing environments. If you enjoy solving complex, real-world engineering problems and want to make an impact through hands-on innovation, we’d love to hear from you.
