Job Description

The Job Opportunity and Duties…

  • Provides work direction and training to incarcerated individuals in planting and harvesting field crops
  • Monitors incarcerated individuals’ activity and provides custody and security functions of incarcerated individuals and security of equipment and supplies
  • Enforces institution rules and regulations.
  • Instructs incarcerated individuals in basic farming techniques, safety practices and proper maintenance of farm buildings and equipment and safety standards
  • Performs minor repairs of equipment, tools and/or machinery used in farm operation
  • Performs incarcerated individuals’ duties in emergency situations, critical situations or during critical worker shortage.
  • Writes reports and maintains records of yield per acre for various crops
  • Submits purchase orders for supplies, parts and equipment; monitors soil fertility and determines amounts and proper types of seed fertilizer and spray materials
  • Must conduct themselves professionally, and in a law-abiding manner, at all times and in accordance with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Standards of Employee Conduct
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Formal education in English & arithmetic that includes reading, writing & speaking English & fractions, decimals & percentages; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in agricultural, &/or dairy farming. Positions assigned pick-up & delivery duties must have Commercial Driver’s License.

  • Or 9 mos. exp. as Correctional Farm Laborer, 46540. Positions assigned pick-up & delivery duties must have Commercial Driver’s License.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For employment noted above.
