This position is located at Dan River Prison Work Farm in Blanch, NC (Caswell County) a minimum custody male facility and reports to the Correctional Food Service Supervisor. This position is responsible for assisting with the quality of work performed by the offenders in assigned food preparation and food service area and maintaining sanity conditions.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing first-line supervision of male offenders assigned to work in a large-scale food production and food service correctional facility operation
- Maintaining a dual role of custody and food production training
- Supervising offender workers engaged in a variety of activities in food production including cooking, baking, and service food to the offender population
- Training offenders in the arts of institutional cooking, baking, and serving
- Maintaining standards of sanitation in all areas of the kitchen
- Ensuring proper food storage

Management Preferences:
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in large-scale food production and food service activities.
- Thorough knowledge of the cooking times and temperatures of various foods to ensure compliance with numerous regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of food sanitation principals and methods to maintain standards in an institutional kitchen.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The selected candidate may be selected to work any shift and will work weekends and holidays to ensure 24/7 staff coverage.
About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
Dan River Prison Work Farm is located in Blanch, NC. The facility sits on a 187.5-acre site in the north-central area of Caswell County and houses felon and misdemeanant minimum custody adult male offenders. Work assignments include food service, maintenance, janitorial and other institutional jobs. Other assignments include maintenance work at Caswell Correctional Center and the offender construction program.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document in the work experience section of the application that they possess ALL of the following:
- Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities and/or supervision of offender workers
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, in management of a commercial food service operations, as a Correctional Officer; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
