Deputy Director, Electricity Interconnection – You will be responsible for developing electricity interconnection policy; working with project developers, Ofgem and the National Energy System Operator (NESO) to facilitate development of new interconnectors to contribute to the Government’s Clean Energy mission; and developing policy on interconnection post-2030, including the role of multi-purpose interconnectors and integrated offshore networks.

Great Britain’s electricity network must undergo unprecedented expansion, as the economy electrifies, to deliver decarbonisation, energy affordability and energy security, and support economic growth. To connect new generation and meet future demand, around twice as much new transmission network infrastructure will be needed in Great Britain by 2030 as has been delivered in the past decade. This role provides an opportunity to lead key policy and delivery essential to delivering the electricity networks of the future.

You will be joining the senior leadership team of the Energy Systems and Networks Directorate (ESN). We work to ensure we have a reliable, low cost and clean energy system to support the Government’s mission to achieve clean power by 2030 and accelerate to net zero.

You will lead a team of around 30 policy and delivery professionals. You will oversee three teams: development of planning and consenting policy for electricity networks, in the context of wider reforms; community benefits and community engagement policy for electricity networks; policy development and delivery of community benefits; and supply chain and skills policy for electricity networks.
You will work closely with the Electricity Networks Strategy team within the framework and governance of the Electricity Networks Programme to develop and deliver electricity networks strategy as part of the Government’s Clean Energy mission.
