Google’s Global Network and Infrastructure (GGN&I) is a system of high-capacity fiber optic cables that encircle the globe, under land and sea, connecting data centers to each other and to users. We secure the energy, land, and water needed for the network, in addition to the experts who design, develop, build, and operate this network. Our network is critical societal infrastructure – it supports all our Google employees and all our Google product areas (e.g., Search, YouTube, Workspace, Ads, Bets, etc.) including Google Cloud and all their customers. Planning and Design’s mission is to optimize and orchestrate Google’s network plan to meet customer requirements simply and quickly.
As Director, Engineering, Network Planning and Design, you will drive the team responsible for architecting the infrastructure and capacity plans that underpin Google’s extensive global network. This role encompasses the full spectrum of planning and publishing the final network designs.
As a leader, you will be instrumental in redefining how Google accommodates unpredictable fluctuations in demand and the evolving landscape of customer needs. You will lead operations programs designed to enable Google to scale in a cost-effective and dependable manner.
In this role, you will participate in cross-functional collaboration, partnering with teams across the Alphabet umbrella, including various product areas within and beyond Google Cloud. By understanding the unique network requirements of these teams, you will ensure that the developed plans meet their needs efficiently and reliably.
Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google’s product portfolio possible. We’re proud to be our engineers’ engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.
