That’s Grant Thornton.Job Description:NEW GROUND WON’T BREAK ITSELF.Every day our teams help people in businesses and communities to do what is right and achieve their goals.Grant Thornton’s Economic Consulting division comprises 30 postgraduate economists who provide specialist regulatory, competition and economic valuation services on an advisory and independent expert basis to economic regulators, government, corporates and their legal advisors.Examples of our projects include:

  • Economic tests to assess whether a group of companies have engaged in a cartel and the damages that arose from the overcharge
  • Advising a financial institution to respond to an investigation into potential miss-selling
  • Support to a global telecommunications operator to reshape the regulatory framework
  • Estimating the return on investment to a consumer business from undertaking ESG activities
  • The use of events studies and regression analysis to estimate shareholder losses in a securities litigation matter in the financial services sector
  • Assessing value for money and advising on subsidy matters in relation to Government investment in a major transport initiative

We’re happy to talk flexible working and consider reduced hours and job shares, we’ll support you to balance your work and life.A look into the roleAs a Economic Consulting Assistant Manager within our Economic Consulting team, you will:

  • Responsible for economic projects for clients, managing sections of the analysis on large cases or smaller projects
  • Responsible for economic analysis, research and reporting writing
  • Responsible for designing statistical and econometric analyses capable of addresses client needs
  • Liaising with clients including project updates and presentation of analysis
  • Managing analysts on projects and working alongside others at Grant Thornton to deliver high quality outputs to clients
  • Working alongside Directors and Partners to develop client relationships and to write proposals
  • Identifying opportunities for business development including drafting thought leadership material
  • Supporting analysts to develop and achieve their potential

Knowing you’re right for usJoining us as a Economic Consulting Assistant Manager, the minimum criteria you’ll need is an MSc in Economics. It would be great if you have some of the following skills. ,butt don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way and we recognise

  • Experience within economic consulting or as an economist in industry or public sector
  • Experience of using Microsoft office including excel
  • Experience of present complex arguments to a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of using econometric and statistical software e.g. Stata.

Ideally you have experience in are keen to specialise in one or more of the following areas:

  • A regulated sector e.g telecoms, media, financial services, water, transport or energy;
  • Competition assessment e.g. abuse of dominance, competition damages and subsidy control
  • Economics of disputes e.g contributing to expert reports focussing on infringement and / or quantum in a competition, high court or tribunal setting
  • Public sector economics e.g economic impact assessment, cost benefit analysis and policy evaluation
