Entry-Level Telecom Technician
Top Skills’ Details:
- Telecom Trade Experience: Seeking candidates interested in gaining experience in the Telecom trade (Layer 1 fiber/cat5/cat6). Hands-on labor experience is a plus, and we are open to training.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to carry 50 lbs or more, as equipment and tools can be heavy and awkward to carry.
- Qualifications: Must pass a drug test and possess a valid driver’s license.
Secondary Skills – Nice to Haves:
- COAX or fiber experience (training provided if needed).
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Splice fiber optic cables, including loose tube and ribbon optic cables.
- Construct proper splice cases, including grounding, bonding, isolation, slack storage, and sealing.
- Read and interpret work orders, specifications, engineering drawings, and cut sheets to determine the sequence of tasks.
- Perform work in accordance with industry standards.
- Be familiar with BICSI standards, follow design engineers’ instructions and specifications, maintain project scope, and adhere to safety procedures.
- Interpret buried underground and aerial telecom facilities in records, maps, and the field, making recommendations for changes in running line or construction methodologies.
- Maintain inside and outside plant records during installation.
- Participate in engineering, permit, and construction processes to support project contracts.
- Perform routine maintenance.
- Recognize and repair route issues, including maintenance and hand hole cleanup, and sign placement.
- Connect wires and cables to terminals and attach/detach various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
- Respond to and participate in emergency and outage situations requiring heavy construction capabilities.
- Ensure all work considers the safety of the customer and general public and complies with all governmental orders.
- Work outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
- Complete daily production reports and As-Built documentation on prints.

Work Environment:
- Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM.
- Working at various customer sites across the island on the Hilo side.
Business Drivers/Customer Impact:
- We have started to support a large Telecom company on the island on an ongoing contract, performing drop-installs inside homes, clearing ducts, and moving into MDUs (multi-dwelling units). A team is needed to respond to these installs.
Why is the position open?
- To support the ongoing project on Oahu, requiring techs with experience in pulling and terminating cable, able to lift at least 50 lbs, and comfortable working on OSP projects.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 – $23.00/hr.
