About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for an Environment, Sustainability & Social Value Advisor . The role is predominately site- based in Brighton but may be required to support other regional projects, from time to time and be happy to travel to a variety of locations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing advice to construction teams regarding pollution prevention and environmental best practice this may be in the form of developing management plans, toolbox talks or taking part in meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation during all construction activities.
  • Maintaining and collating waste and carbon records, recognition, and capture of Co2e scopes 1, 2 and 3 and driving down on key emissions, in conjunction with project administration.
  • Undertaking noise and vibration monitoring.
  • Regular liaison with key environmental stakeholders including the Client, Local Authorities, charities, schools, universities, local communities, and Regulators.
  • Tracking and improving environmental performance onsite.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental commitments within the contract and/or planning documents.
  • Identifying more sustainable solutions for the construction industry, including working on new sustainability initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with experts such as ecologists, archaeologists, and designers to determine key control measures/targets/processes for the project.
  • Supporting the project in achieving their social value targets set by the Client and Balfour Beatty.
  • Working within our Sustainability Portal and other associated systems to ensure full capture of data and on-time reporting.

Who we’re looking for

You will have the following:

  • Understanding of current environmental legislation and best practice relating to construction projects – including waste management, pollution prevention and material sourcing.
  • Familiarity with routine environmental inspections for construction projects.
  • Familiarity social value requirements of the project and body corporate.
  • Experience with Waste Duty of Care requirements and documents.
  • Good communication skills
  • Previous experience in in similar industries at project level.
  • Ability to assist in problem solving for environmental, sustainability and social value challenges and providing opportunities for environmental innovation
  • Desire to drive continual improvement in the environment, sustainability, and social value fields.
  • Understanding of UK Climate change legislation.

Experience required:

  • Relevant Degree / eg. Environment & Sustainability
  • Experience in similar industry, i.e., construction, civils, groundworks, demolition etc.
  • Comfortable and professional in client / outward faced activities.
  • Comfortable and professional in development of social value activities.
  • A positive team player who is career minded.

Role will be full-time, but the hours can be adapted to allow for a shorter working week, work from home days.
