Lonoke and Marianna Farms

These positions are available at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences (SAFHS) Lonoke farm, located in Lonoke, Arkansas. The applicant must be able to operate modern farm equipment and demonstrate the ability to develop effective working relationships with other personnel at the university and with the clientele group. The position requires the ability to work unsupervised and/or unassisted at various sites both at the farm and other locations. Successful candidates will be required to assist in extension-related projects at UAPB farms and UAPB-supported off-site community/clientele-based activities, and other duties assigned by the Resident Director.
Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs. and must have a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
FUNCTIONS
1. Provide assistance in field crop research and/or demonstration which includes, but is not limited to field preparation, weed control, maintenance, and monitoring water usage during irrigation of crops.
2. Collect and record data
3. Operate tractors and other machinery to prepare and/or maintain field plots.
4. Maintain the appearance of research and/or demonstration plots and adjacent areas.
5. Assist with harvesting and processing of crops from research and/or demonstration plots.
6. Collect and prepare plant and soil samples following available guidelines.
7. Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or SAFHS Administrator.
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in agriculture-related field and one year of experience in a specialized or related field applicable to work performed is required.
Additional Information:
Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Selection Committee.
Salary Information:
Commensurate with education and experience.
