Your Role:

Reporting to the Director of Farm and Feed Compliance, the Compliance Auditor will be responsible for assessing and monitoring our farms for compliance with both rigorous Vital Farms standards and external regulatory agencies. The location of this position is east of the Mississippi River, primarily in southern Illinois, southwest Kentucky, and northwestern Tennessee area. The Compliance Auditor will be exceedingly thorough in their processes and provide meaningful and actionable feedback to our growers to enhance each farm’s ability to achieve excellence. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Schedule and conduct regular inspections to ensure Vital Farm standards and pasture raised practices are maintained on each of our small family farms.
  • Schedule and participate in third party inspections including regulatory bodies, customers, and organic certifiers.
  • Develop close professional working relationships with our Growers to support their learning and development in the importance of active farm management.
  • Collaborate with Growers to assist them with audit preparation activities, including collecting appropriate documentation and determining optimal scheduling. 
  • Listen to Grower needs and concerns and diplomatically solve challenges.
  • Collaborate and maintain close contact with the Farm Compliance and Farm Support crew to share best practices and provide support. 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Candidate must be located East of the Mississippi River, primarily in southern Illinois, southwest Kentucky, or northwestern Tennessee area.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in farm or agriculture
  • 2 years of farm compliance knowledge
  • Basic understanding of FDA regulations and auditing
  • Ability to manage significant travel, with considerable driving and occasional overnight trips.
  • Ability to travel 15% for company onboarding, team meetings and other business needs 
  • Professional communication skills
  • Analytical capabilities with the skillset to generate insight from data
  • Ability to set goals, remain organized, and have the internal motivation to achieve the goals
  • Transparent mindset towards open communication with all stakeholders, including team members, growers, and certifying bodies

At Vital Farms, compensation decisions are dependent upon a variety of factors, which may include, but are not limited to, skill level, experience, education, training, market demands, and business needs. A reasonable estimate of the current starting annual base salary for this position is $50,000 – $70,000. Please keep in mind that hiring at the maximum end of the range would not be typical in order to allow for potential continued future salary growth.
