What we want
Under general supervision, the Reproductive Sciences Complex (RSC) Farm Foreman I will supervise and participate in the daily animal care of the research livestock and the upkeep of the farm facilities and equipment.
What you need to know
Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two years of experience managing herds, assisting with animal care or related areas.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of working with or managing sheep herds and cattle
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to evaluate the health of animals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in animal or science related field
- Over two years’ experience working with or directly managing a sheep herd
- Experience assisting with aseptic animal surgeries and post-operative care
Responsibilities:
- Animal Husbandry: Under direction, oversees and participates in daily livestock husbandry. Under direction, oversees and participates in livestock care including: deworming, sample collection, hoof trimming, halter training, etc.
- Facility Maintenance: Oversees and participates in the maintenance of the facility structure. Schedules maintenance and coordinates repairs. Performs welding, fencing, and construction to maintain the facilities as needed. Under direction, oversees and participates in weed control of pastures and pen areas
- Record Keeping: Oversees and maintains daily herd health/feeding and general facility maintenance records. Assists with purchasing supplies and equipment
- Supervision Provided: Responsible for the scheduling, training, and supervision of the student worker farm staff at the RSC
