Description of Work
The Eastern Nebraska Research Extension and Education Center (ENREEC) is a 10,000 acre facility near Ithaca and Mead, NE, and within 40 minutes of both Omaha and Lincoln metro areas. Farm Operations is responsible for approximately 3,000 acres of row crop production that supports large scale research and provides forage and feedstuffs to the animal science units located on the facility.
As a Farm Hand, you will:
- Perform all activities associated with irrigated and dry-land corn and soybean production including but not limited to disking, field cultivation, chisel plowing, deep tillage, auger cart operation, fertilizer applications, spraying, grain cart operation, manure application, and harvesting. Perform routine equipment maintenance and repair of farm equipment.
- Perform duties associated with forage operations as needed for both research and non-research projects located at ENREEC. Including alfalfa, brome grass and warm season grasses. Operation of equipment associated with forage operations including but not limited to including hay swather, hay rake, bale mover, and straight truck. Perform routine equipment maintenance and repair of forage equipment.
- Responsible for transportation of crop grains during harvest to storage locations throughout the ENREEC facilities, while maintaining accurate records on condition and location of grains.
- Serves as primary roadside maintainer. Including mowing, spraying and hand weeding if necessary to maintain perception of ENREEC facility.
- Provides supervisor recommendations, promotes safe work environment, attends continuing education classes. Other duties as assigned.
Irregular hours and work in inclement weather required. Position requires obtaining an EPA Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License within 90 days of employment. NRD certified nitrogen license within 6 months of employment. Within the UNL system, this position is categorized as an Ag Research Technician I.

- Minimum Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience in agriculture. Additional relevant education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and perform basic repair of agricultural field equipment.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and meet UNL driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are preferred, but not required:
