Job Summary

Farm Laborer (FARM LABORER)

Under supervision of the AGRICULTURE MGR 1, perform unskilled and skilled agricultural tasks in and around research plots in fields, including irrigating, weeding and harvesting at Russell Ranch Field Facilities (300+ acres) as well as 500+ acres of labor recharge locations and other College field facilities as assigned. THIS IS A PARTIAL-YEAR CAREER POSITION: This position is subject to furlough and curtailment periods where the employee is not at work and without pay; furlough would not exceed three (3) months.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Forklift certificate
  • CA Driver’s License to perform job duties
  • Experience performing general agricultural work.
  • Knowledge of and experience with determining correct irrigation frequency and duration.
  • Experience driving light vehicles, operate tractors and operate hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the plot layout at Plant Sciences.

Physical Demands

  • Lift irrigation pipe, farm equipment, and sacks or boxes weighing up to 50 lbs. 
  • Stoop, bend and stand for prolonged periods of time. 
  • Walk on uneven terrain, including plowed ground. 
  • Work in the field under hot, uncomfortable conditions. 
  • Skills to drive light vehicles, operate tractors and operate hand tools.

Work Environment
