Job Details

Description

Come join the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community as a Farm Laborer with Wozupi Tribal Gardens. Farm crew members work primarily in vegetable production and orchard maintenance, with some opportunities to work with poultry and native foods. Primary tasks include harvesting, packing, planting, weeding, and landscape maintenance. This is a seasonal position with both full time and part time opportunities.

Job Overview: Primary tasks include harvesting, packing, planting, weeding, mowing, pruning, and mulching. In this low-till farm, mulches and cover crops are used extensively and most tasks are done with hand tools or small mechanized equipment. The farm is focused on meeting the needs of tribal members and the Community’s food institutions. Applicants should expect to work hard and keep up a strong pace in all types of weather. We appreciate motivated people that work well with others, have a strong attention to detail, and enjoy challenging themselves to consistently deliver better results, and faster (but not hectic). The position requires flexibility and occasional overtime.

Outstanding Benefits & Awesome Perks: At the SMSC, we are invested in our Team Members, as demonstrated by the competitive benefits we offer. Team Members may be eligible for benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, and a generous PTO package, which includes outreach hours for volunteer work through our #SMSCgives outreach program. Plus, take advantage of perks like discounts on childcare, fuel, bus passes and fitness membership, free uniforms and free uniform cleaning, and tuition reimbursement.

The SMSC has donated more than $350 million to organizations and causes, provided $500 million in economic development loans to other tribes, and contributed millions more to support regional governments and infrastructure. The SMSC’s Native Green initiative annually diverts hundreds of tons of waste from landfills, has implemented compostable containers throughout our properties and restored hundreds of acres of prairie land.
