COMPENSATION: $62,480-$78,105 based on directly related experience.

Position Description & Details

Bismarck State College is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable Farm/Ranch Management Education Program Director to lead and deliver our educational program aimed at assisting farmers and ranchers in managing and improving their agricultural enterprises. The successful candidate will have a strong background in agricultural management, financial analysis, and business planning, with a passion for empowering enrollees to achieve their business goals. The preferred office location for this position is in Bismarck, ND, but enrollees may be in central and western North Dakota. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participant Support: Assist farmers and ranchers in establishing and maintaining detailed financial and production records, conducting thorough business analyses, and generating accurate cash flow projections.
  • Instruction & Training: Provide one-on-one instruction in areas such as accounting techniques, financial management, business analysis, business planning, enterprise evaluation, and goal setting.
  • Recruitment & Enrollment: Actively recruit participants, enroll them in the program, and provide ongoing support throughout their involvement.
  • Program Development: Continuously refine and adapt the program content to meet the evolving needs of participants and the agricultural industry.

Duties:

  • Conduct regular one-on-one sessions with enrollees to ensure they are effectively applying accounting and financial management techniques.
  • Guide participants through comprehensive business analysis and planning processes to improve their agricultural operations.
  • Assist enrollees in evaluating their business enterprises and setting realistic, achievable goals.
  • Travel within central and western North Dakota to meet with participants and provide on-site instruction and support.
  • Maintain detailed records of enrollee progress and provide regular reports on program outcomes and success metrics.
  • Collaborate with other agricultural educators and professionals to enhance program offerings and ensure alignment with industry standards.
  • Participate in community outreach and engagement activities to promote the program and recruit new participants.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Continuously – 66-100% – Use hands dexterously, talk or hear.
  • Frequently – 34-65% – Stand, walk, or sit.
  • Occasionally – 1-33% – Reach with hands and arms, stoop/kneel/crouch, crawl, climb or balance, or lift to 25 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agriculture education, business, finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. An associate’s degree with appropriate work experience may also be considered. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to be trained in using FINPACK software.
  • Good working knowledge of computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, email & electronic calendar – Outlook).
  • Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups.
  • Will be required to obtain North Dakota State Board for Career and Technical Education certification (up to six years to obtain and tuition assistance is available).
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching farm management.
  • Experience in agriculture finance such as agricultural loan officer.
  • Three or more years of agriculture/agribusiness experience.
  • Proficiency with FINPACK, Excel and one or more farm accounting software programs.
  • Applicable master’s degree.
  • Documented successful teaching experience.
