Responsibilities will be moderate and less routine and will require responsibility and good judgement. May coordinate activities for other student employees. Requires providing excellent customer service, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a professional environment. Requires previous experience and knowledge or skill in student assistant role. Represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values. 

Additional Information:

The Farm to School Student Assistant 2 works closely with an FCS Field Specialist to strengthen existing Farm to School outreach and ultimately promote procurement of locally grown foods by schools and early care sites, while increasing pre-K through secondary students’ awareness about how food in grown and agriculture-related employment opportunities.

The Farm to School Student Assistant 2 will:

1. Assist with developing communications that promote and expand the potential impact of the Growing Teachers Throughout the Seasons curriculum materials (released in April 2024).

2. Assist with developing communications that promote and expand the potential impact of the new Ohio Early Care and Education Procurement Guides (How to sell local foods to ECE sites; how ECE sites can purchase local foods)

3. Assist with developing communications that promote and expand the potential impact of the new Bringing the Farm to School (Scarlet Canvas, created with Ohio Dept. of Education and Workforce to convey specialized guidance for Ohio producers who want to sell to schools in Ohio).

4. Assist with coordination of special events (Farm to School Month, Great Apple Crunch, etc.) to increase awareness of the resources for and benefits of serving local foods in schools.

5. Assist with Farm to School promotion through management of Farm to School websites, social media and other communications.

6. Provide input for the F2S monthly newsletter in partnership with ODA and ODEW– Farm to School success stories.

Qualifications: Knowledge of health promotion and/or agricultural communications, through college coursework and/or experience, is required. Must be organized and demonstrate attention to detail, and work well independently and as a member of a team. Experience in campaign/promotional planning and implementation, social media, and website management is desirable.
