The Offshore & Field Telecoms Support Engineer ensures reliable, secure, and safe operation of IT and telecommunications systems across offshore and onshore production, exploration, and operational environments. The role supports critical field telecoms services, maintains safety‑critical systems, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, site personnel, and vendors to deliver end‑to‑end telecoms and IT services that meet operational, safety, and business performance targets across Production and Wells facilities.
You will act as a trusted technical advisor, support routine and emergency operations, contribute to project execution, and maintain high‑quality technical documentation while ensuring compliance with industry standards, including SOLAS and offshore safety regulations.
The position provides services to meet the financial and operating performance targets of IT delivery within the IDT (Information Digital Technology) Capital projects team delivering not just Telecoms scope to remote site but inclusive of connectivity, End user computing, collaboration, hosting & Storage services working effectively with onshore, onsite support teams and 3rd party vendors to ensure end-2-end delivery.
What is the Role?
This Role will work in conjunction with the IDT P&E Capital Projects, IT Operations and other IDT stakeholders to provide services as listed below:
- Hands on and customer facing offsite support, ensuring Service provision and availability of all critical IT Systems Offshore.
- Support and maintain Field Telecommunications Services, including legacy and modern systems.
- Serve as a key member of the Field Telecoms on‑call team, responding to project/operational issues and emergencies.
- Co-ordinate Logistics, Scheduling and Maintenance , Budget Planning for Telecoms team.
- Participate in projects peer reviews and health assessments and implement all recommendations.
- Drive to ensure that all IT services across Nigeria Capital projects, including offshore, are operational.
- Maintain Telecoms sparing philosophy in line with risk profile obsolescence management.
- Drive Offshore IT and Telecoms problem resolution activities and as delegate retaining ownership of all problems until close out.
- Ensure the execution of planned preventive & corrective maintenance, inspection and tests of IT systems and Telecoms infrastructure components.
- Contractor site Management with focus on goal zero and lifesaving rules in Nigeria Offshore workspace.
- Ensure all Telecoms’ activities comply with the Marine & Land Transport safety policies as applicable.
- Collaborate with onshore/offshore leads, integrated service providers, and third‑party vendors to deliver seamless telecoms/IT services
- Actively participate and coordinate Telecoms Project Activities.
- Provide technical advice to site personnel on telecoms and IT systems, highlighting risks and mitigation measures.
- Technical Systems Management
Maintain and troubleshoot:
- Satellite and Microwave radio systems.
- Mobile radio systems (preferably Motorola).
- Telemetry and navigational systems.
- CCTV systems.
- PAGA (Public Address & General Alarm) systems.
- Intrusion detection systems.
- Offshore communication technologies and equipment.
- Provide technical advice to site personnel on telecoms and IT systems highlighting risks and mitigation measures
What we need from you?
- Minimum 6 years’ experience in telecommunication IT service delivery and support, of which preferably at least 3 years in Offshore IT Support.
- Minimum Education or Certification: Minimum 4-year Degree Electrical, Electronics, Communications, Computer Engineering or Applied Sciences (if further degree in Electronics or Communications Engineering).
- Knowledge of Security and Safety Critical equipment essential for SOLAS (Safety of life at Sea) like GMDSS, PAGA, RADAR and Inmarsat Satellite Systems.
- Demonstrate awareness of other key Offshore technologies (like Stabilized Antenna, Telemetry and Navigational systems, various Radio systems, Weather Monitoring, Collaboration devices, Satellite Connectivity (LEO, MEO & GEO).
- Proven record of delivering against stretched targets.
- Demonstrable ability to engage effectively with all levels in Business & IT.
- Experience with IT and Business Risk Management.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, suitable for diverse cultures and levels in Production and IT.
- Ability to manage relations with peers and senior managers effectively in various organizations.
