Job Description:Global Equine Science & Nutrition Director – Mars HorsecareBased in Milton Keynes, UK, or Dallas, US – hybrid working arrangement with a variable level of travel requiredPurpose & Scope:Over the last few decades Mars has helped to improve the health, behaviour, welfare and performance of horses globally through its portfolio of products and services and involvement with equine charities, as well as the impactful relevant research it has undertaken in collaboration with experts in universities and institutes around the world.We are now seeking an enthusiastic equine veterinary researcher with a strong interest in nutrition to join the company and to continue to developand manage the Mars equine research strategy and project portfolio through collaborations with family stakeholders, external partners and key opinion leaders. They will have the opportunity to develop and deliver the equine research strategy in line with Mars Horsecare businessrequirements and to undertake external activities, including presenting at key equine conferences, to help support Mars Horsecare’s purpose of Making a better world for horses. Working alongside Mars Horsecare’s senior leadership team the role holder will also have the chance to input into business strategy, support product and claim development where relevant, and provide associate training as well as veterinary and nutritional support to key customers when required. They will also be involved in various activities relating to the Mars equine ecosystem.Working initially with the current Director of Equine Science & Nutrition, Dr Pat Harris, who will provide appropriate mentoring and support, this is a unique opportunity for the right individual to have a global impact on the equine industry.Key Criteria:The role holder needs to be an equine veterinarian with a PhD or similar post-graduate qualification who has preferably worked in one or more of the key areas of equine nutrition, equine endocrinology, equine exercise physiology, equine ageing or laminitis.In addition, the right candidate will have;A strong interest in equine nutrition and the enabling role it can play in health, performance and disease.Proven ability to operate as an individual, as well as a contributorProven experience of managing research projects and supervising PhD studentsProven skills in the planning, organising, supervising, publishing and presenting of research projects.Good influencing, communication (written and verbal), and problem-solving skills#LI-FG1Mars is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
