Role: RASSO Criminal Justice OfficerDepartment: Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP)Scale: SC5Salary: £27,789 – £29,874Location: Clough Road, Hull or Brigg Police Station (Preferred location to be specified by candidate in interview)Hours: 37 Hours per week (Full-Time) Office BasedContract: PermanentAs a RASSO Criminal Justice Officer you will check the content and quality of all pre charge prosecution files, ensuring evidential quality and relevant documentation is correct. Assisting Investigators by identifying lines of enquiry, advising officers in the preparation and submission of pre charge filesKey Responsibilities:

  • Checks content and the quality of all RaSSO prosecution files, checking for evidential content and quality, ensuring that the files contain all the relevant documentation and evidence. Ensure the RaSSO and DA check lists are completed prior to the case file being submitted to the CPS.
  • Advising Investigators in the preparation and submission of prosecution files.
  • Completes Pre charge disclosure and submits case files to the CPS.
  • Monitors the submission and progress of case files, inputting and updating relevant systems. Monitor timeliness of the submission and progress of case files within nationally and locally agreed timescales. Responding to CPS weekly case chaser requests and urgent case requests.
  • Ensures that all matters appertaining to file build and pre and post charge submissions are dealt with appropriately.
  • Ensures that all matters appertaining to the discharge disclosure obligations under current legislation are dealt with appropriately.
  • Ensuring that risks to the Force/Command, which may affect its ability to provide business as usual now or in the future, are identified and escalated to their line manager or local Risk Champion at the earliest opportunity

What the role requires:

  • Must have an awareness of the CPIA (Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act) and PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act).
  • Possesses a basic understanding of the criminal law in England & Wales and how it is administered and the relationship between the Police and the Crown Prosecution Service.
  • Experience of working within a confidential environment.
  • Computer literate with experience using Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing to ensure tasks are completed accurately.
  • Demonstrates the ability to use own initiative and judgement in the interpretation of issues, problems, etc
