Job Duties

Investigative Analyst provides for the collection, evaluation, and analysis of information related to criminal and/or disruptive behavior in an effort to address, anticipate, prevent, or monitor any such behavior or activities. It reviews various databases for situational awareness and makes entries in automated information systems. It produces reports, charts, and graphs through analysis for projects and investigations. It develops visual presentations. It collaborates with DOC staff and others to receive, obtain, and disseminate information concerning threats to the safety, security and orderly operation of DOC correctional facilities and/or the community at large.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to work rotating shifts on an as-needed basis. Knowledge of the intelligence cycle and the active collaboration process. Knowledge of analytical application programs and software to produce maps, text, tables, graphs, and charts. Knowledge of researching, writing, publishing and presenting analytical products. Knowledge of gangs and other security threat groups. Ability to apply critical thinking to diverse information sets to produce logic-based analysis and recommendations. Knowledge of automated inmate management databases and/or other information technology systems utilized in a corrections, criminal justice, and/or law enforcement environment. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and representatives both inside and outside the Department of Corrections to obtain and categorize intelligence-related information and materials.

Additional Considerations

Advanced knowledge of the Virginia Department of Corrections incident reporting procedures. Knowledge of the JPay system (IT and Finance system that services the US Prison System). Cellebrite certification.
