The Network Technician is responsible for installation and maintenance of voice and/or data network equipment in support of assigned areas and customers.

Responsibilities

Work Queue Management

  • Proactively monitors the Service Desk Work Order queue for the group and meets or exceeds expected customer service level agreements.
  • Supports network equipment including switches, routers, access points and telephones through activation, configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Provides out of hours support periodically as part of an on-call rotation within the team.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to expand data and/or voice networking knowledge required for advanced troubleshooting.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to cross-train in other areas of IS including mobile devices, printers, firewall and a variety of software packages.
  • Provides effective user training and support.
  • Provides troubleshooting, problem analysis, debugging, and resolution of assigned network issues.
  • Plans, designs, develops, images, supports, and replenishes computer systems and related hardware devices including monitors, palms, mobile devices, and printers to meet customer needs.
  • Provides customer service to define business needs and translate those needs into system functionality requirements.
  • Provides analysis on system design specifications and system/product evaluation.
  • Determines and defines necessary budget items to support assigned network service maintenance and growth.
  • Develops customer and system documentation as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

IS Operational Support

  • Utilizes IS Operational support to include Help Desk, Change Control, Problem Management, source and version control, and other PC and related system support as required and provides feedback and analysis to improve these PC systems.
  • Build and maintain vendor relationships to ensure products meet the business needs and objectives of the Hospital.
  • Works to minimize network downtime and the effects of downtime on Hospital users by scheduling needed maintenance or upgrades to provide minimal disruption of service to users, proactively monitor and analyze system performance to detect and resolve production system issues, and perform stringent system testing before implementing solutions.
  • Provides fiscal responsibility for the use of Hospital resources by designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions to best utilize those resources in their area of responsibility.

Information Assurance

  • Knowledgeable of and adheres to Nationwide Children’s Hospital policies, processes, procedures, standards, and guidelines governing privacy, security, and disaster recovery/business continuity.
  • Actively protects sensitive, classified, and confidential information.
  • Uses and accesses PC system support tools and information only for authorized purposes and in accordance with security procedures and guidelines to perform job duties as assigned.
  • Maintains individual accountability for security controls and measures (e.g., individual passwords are not shared with other users).
  • Reports suspected security and/or privacy incidents following established procedures.
  • Develops, implements, and/or modifies user support following IS Information Assurance policies, processes, procedures, and guidelines and industry standards to address security, privacy, and disaster recovery/business continuity needs to protect Nationwide Children’s Hospital information and resources at established, defined levels.

  • Develops and maintains technical and professional skill levels including technical certifications and ongoing skills training.
  • Provide training to other IS staff members in areas of specialty.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • At least 2 years experience with support of voice and/or data networks.
  • Technical degree in associated area or equivalent experience required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, presentation, and communication skills required to interact effectively with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
  • Strong skills in use of PC desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules to meet job requirements; requires occasional after-hours support and overnight travel.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position requires ability to talk, listen and type.
  • Position requires the ability to work in tight spaces that can be above 90 degrees in temperature.
  • Position requires the ability to carry, lift and place network equipment.
  • Position requires the ability to interact effectively with customers and information services personnel across the organization.
