As a IT Network Engineer III / Senior, you will be at the forefront of deploying, configuring, maintaining, and monitoring our advanced network infrastructure. Your expertise will ensure the smooth operation of APS’s communication networks, driving optimal performance and availability.

What your day would be like:

You are responsible for:

  • Network Deployment: Lead the deployment of cutting-edge network solutions, ensuring robust and scalable infrastructure.
  • Configuration and Maintenance: Configure and maintain network hardware and software, optimizing performance and reliability.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor network performance, quickly identifying and resolving issues to maintain seamless operations.
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously analyze network performance, implementing enhancements to ensure maximum efficiency and uptime.
  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with cross-functional teams to support network-related needs and ensure comprehensive coverage and support.
  • Technical: Preferred skills include Palo Alto firewall, F5 Load Balancer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Azure Cloud.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in Information Technology or related field
  • AND five (5) years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires strong technical knowledge within a job area or system and basic knowledge across related technical areas

IT Network Engineer, Senior jobsnear.org Enterprise Network

  • Bachelors’ degree in Information Technology or related field
  • AND seven (7) years of prior relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
  • Requires in-depth level of technical knowledge within a job area and working knowledge of other technical areas

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Knowledge of network design, installation, maintenance and operations;
  • IT security; hardware and software for firewalls; firewall installation, configuration and maintenance;
  • Ability to recognize the importance of customer focus and/or of serving the needs of the end user;
  • Solve problems analytically; feel comfortable working with different teams, clients and groups of staff across an organization;
  • Prioritize personal workload; troubleshoot technical problems, including working with clients to diagnose and resolve problems; work independently and manage team work simultaneously

Major Accountabilities

1) Leads network and communication area

2) Formulates, implements and coordinates designing, installing and maintaining of internal systems

3) Provides advanced level troubleshooting with network equipment

4) May conduct infrastructure planning and development

5) Leads design and development activities

6) Implements and supports the network infrastructure

7) Assists specialists in more complex analysis, design, development, tests and debugging to increase efficiencies

8) May provide guidance and assistance to other employees

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work, but the ultimate decision is the company’s. Employees will have two options to choose from: 

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.
  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.
  • Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.

CIP Requirement:

This position requires Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) access consistent with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The applicant considered for this role will be required to obtain and maintain CIP access for the duration of employment in this position. A full seven (7) year criminal history will be obtained through the pre-employment background check process (or, for current employees, through supplemental background check process) to fulfill the CIP access requirements. In addition, this position requires an additional background check every seven years to maintain access.
