To sustain its growth, A&O Shearman is currently looking for a Junior Associate to join our Public and Environmental Law practice in Brussels, which:

  • Is a market leading international and national public sector practice and is involved in public sector transactions across Europe;
  • Advises on Belgian and EU public law and regulatory matters including constitutional law issues, public procurement, public-private partnerships and mixed entities, foreign direct investment screenings, environmental law and planning and zoning, regulatory compliance, climate change and carbon trading, privatisations and matters related to EU Institutions;
  • Is the go-to practice for environmental work, encompassing producer responsibility, product and waste regulations, contaminated sites, habitat and nature protection, hazardous substances (including PFAS, asbestos, chemicals), climate change, and environmental permitting. The team also advises on the environmental and regulatory aspects of complex project finance and transactions;
  • Advises clients on the implementation of the European Green Deal and climate and renewable energy regulations;
  • Is actively involved in litigation in relation to public and environmental law issues.

Who we are looking for

  • You obtained or will obtain a Belgian Master in Law with outstanding academic results;
  • You are looking to start your Bar traineeship in the fall of 2025 or you have up to two years of experience;
  • You have an excellent command of English, French as well as Dutch;
  • You like to work in a team, but you are able to work independently at the same time;
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
