Job Description Summary
Your role as the Lead Wind Farm Field Service Technician will see you interface regularly with the Service Management, the Client, internal technical team, contractors, and the local community. You will take a lead role in the resident site team and undertake tasks including annual maintenance, retrofit works, major component exchange and fault finding at our Silverton Wind Farm Project near Broken Hill NSW.
The Lead Technician will also act as the State Nominated Electrical Supervisor, and Delegate to the High Voltage Operating Authority.
Wind Turbine specific training will be provided to the successful applicants.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Hold the Site Electrical Contractors Licence Nominee position and carry out the position functions
- Act as the Site Delegate to the High Voltage Operating Authority (HVOA) and carry out the position functions
- Have working knowledge of the appropriate Acts, Regulations, Standards and Codes of Practice
- Ensure compliance and documentation in regard to the above are implemented, managed and maintained
- Interpret the requirements of GE manuals, specifications, bulletins and complete assigned tasks in accordance with GE work instructions
- With the Site Manager, coordinate and delegate maintenance schedules and daily tasks
- Lead, coach and train site Technicians and 3rd party contractors
- Lead continuous improvement efforts and share lessons learnt
- Prepare work programs for the timely servicing of assets and organise daily work plans for contractors
- Perform and ensure the proper maintenance and fault finding of assets
- Maintain reports using GE’s various software management tools and databases
- Report errors, violations, incidents, or problems immediately using GE reporting systems
- Submit enquiries to Engineering to ensure technical issues are resolved
- Make a conformance or non-conformance decision upon completion of inspections
- Form part of an on-call roster to work weekends or after hours if required or as directed by management
- Perform High Voltage (HV) switching operations according to site procedures as required, including the holding of permits, creating switching instruction and issuing permits. Ensuring all documentation associated with electrical work / HV switching is completed, accurate and filed.
- Be familiar with and follow all EHS policies, and procedures applicable to the job and cooperate with GE investigations, EHS audits and call attention to fellow employees of unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and practices to their Manager, Supervisor, and EHS Manager/Coordinator.
- Have a demonstrated and consistent commitment to safety policies and procedures and be able to work within those requirements.
- Carry out maintenance installation and repairs of the electrical apparatus reforming all maintenance functions related with electrical systems, and power generation distribution in line with safety operations and maintenance principles to guarantee the smooth functioning of the production facility for field operation work.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with GE documents and to Services EHS & QA/QC policies/procedures including but not limited to Electrical Safety Procedures, Lock out / Tag out Procedures and SWMS.
- Create and manage engineering cases
- Participate in meetings on behalf of the site
Qualifications & Requirements
- At least 5 years’ experience as an unrestricted A-grade electrician, operating at a wind farm or equivalent large-scale industrial work site
- Understanding of basic AC/DC electrical circuits
- Meet the required modules to be an electrical nominee/technical supervisor under the relevant regulatory/safe work legislation e.g. REC contractor’s course
- Demonstrated customer service attributes and team leadership experience in a similar role within the wind industry or equivalent large-scale industrial work site
- Have a current High Voltage operating certificate and the ability to be immediately installed as a High Voltage Authority delegate (preferred but not essential)
- Demonstrated previous experience in High Voltage switching and operations.
- Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics and PI&D
- Proficient in fault finding electrical, mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
- Trained to an intermediate level in computer skills.
- Must have positive attitude, the ability to complete physically demanding tasks at heights and be willing to climb wind turbines.
- Must hold a current Australian Driver’s license
